Where in the World? (A Biome Story)
Integrated Science
Name:
Per:
The assignment “Land Biomes and Climatograms” allowed you the opportunity to explore many of the
biomes of the world. This assignment will allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the many
biotic and abiotic factors present in different biomes.
Product:
You have the option of creating either a CREATIVE WRITING STORY or a CARTOON that
illustrates your understanding of biomes and climatograms. You will select an organism and a
biome and take us on a tour through your home. You will then describe a trip to a different biome
and explain why you don’t want to live there.
Requirements – Each story/cartoon should
 Tell us about yourself and how you are adapted to your biome (describe your animal)
 Tell us about your home (what biome do you live in – pick a specific city/state/country)
 Describe the abiotic conditions where you live
 Describe the biotic conditions where you live
 Find a way to incorporate the idea of a climatogram into your story (and tell us what your
specific climatogram would look like)
 Discuss how climate change might affect your particular biome.
 Describe a trip (present, past, or future) where you visit another biome. You should:
o Select a biome to travel to (name the biome and the city/state/country you visit)
o Describe abiotic conditions where you are visiting and why you do/don’t like them
o Describe biotic conditions where you are visiting and why you do/don’t like them.
Keep in mind that this is creative. It should NOT be a list of the bullets above. Find a fun way to
incorporate this information into your project. For example, when describing the abiotic
conditions in the tropical rainforest, I might say “when I wake up it’s already over 80
degrees…and it’s the middle of winter!”
Grading Rubric:
4 – incorporates all of the above information in a creative, story-telling way
3 – incorporates all of the above information but is more of a “checklist”
2 – doesn’t incorporate all of the information above
1 – contains less than half of the information above
