2014 Junior Broad Members
Kelly Morrison
Hello every one, my name is Kelly Morrison and I am your 2014-2015 Minnesota Junior
Shorthorn board president! Thank you everyone for giving me the opportunity to continue
serving on our junior board for the coming year. For those of you who don’t know very much
about me I am hoping this write up will shed some light on who I am. My parents Terry and
Michelle Morrison run our purebred shorthorn herd in Belle Plaine Minnesota. We are mainly a
cow calf operation, but feed out shorthorn steers we’ve raised as well. My siblings and I have
been involved in the show aspect of the breed for many years now, we will be showing heifer
calves we’ve raised as well as some we’ve purchased at Junior Nationals in Louisville, the
Minnesota State Shorthorn Show in Jordan Minnesota, as well as the Minnesota State Fair. In
my year as president I will be finishing up my freshman year at South Dakota State University
and be returning in the fall to continue my education. Over the past year I have been taking
numerous classes leading me to my double major of Animal Science and Broadcast Journalism.
While attending SDSU I am actively involved in our Block and Bridle club, as well as a member of
Sigma Alpha which is a women’s professional sorority involved in promoting women in careers
in agriculture. Being a part of numerous organizations has only made me realize how much I
love being a part of the Shorthorn breed! If any Junior or senior member has any questions or
opportunities that rise for our Junior Association feel free to contact me at
Kelly.morrison@jacks.sdstate.edu! I look forward to the coming year serving our junior
members.
"I am also excited to announce my honor to be one of the individuals representing
Minnesota this summer at the 2014 Shorthorn Junior Nationals as a candidate for the American
Junior Shorthorn Board. Thank you to all have helped me though this process. I look forward to
all the fun that is to come during this candidacy process!"
