This Week’s News

“Heritage of Worship” June Bible Study: Last Sunday’s kick-off to our
Summer Sunday Bible study series centered on God’s Covenant; the sacrificial
nature of Old Testament worship rites and rituals; the Israelites portable
altars and worship tent (tabernacle). This background leads to today’s
discussion centered on the Jewish life that Jesus knew and worked through –
preaching and healing. His message of forgiveness; his death and
resurrection, graced the Christian gatherings of the first centuries. What
changed in the worship experience of the early Christ followers – 40 A.D. to
300 A. D.? Join the conversation at 9:30am in the Fireside Room.
Upcoming Mount Olive Bike Rides:
TODAY! Paoli Area - Wendy Ride 2.0 - 24.5mi, rolling hills to hilly (shorter
routes also possible). Leave the Hop Garden Brewery at 11am for a ride
through the countryside mostly east of Paoli, before returning to the Hop
Garden Brewery.
Sunday, June 28th - Amish Abound - Bike Loop 2 (Columbia County) - 26.7mi,
rolling hills. Leave Riverside Park in Portage at 10am for a ride through the
beautiful Amish countryside of Columbia County. Midway stop at the (Amish)
The Corner
Stewardship Corner:
“Whoever does the will of God, he is
my brother and sister and mother.”
(Mark 3:35)
Doing the will of God starts with
trusting in His Son Jesus Christ.
Once we have faith in Him and have
been reborn as new creatures
through Holy Baptism, we strive to
grow in this faith and in a life that
agrees with our faith. Growing in
generosity, in kindness, and in love
across our callings in the home, in
church, and in society is growing in
the family of God: for all who do His
will are his brothers, and sisters,
and mothers.

want to miss the bakery, do you?).
We still have two weekends open in June. If you have a ride you would like to
do, please let the group know. For questions, maps & cue sheets, or further
info, please contact George or Sue Krug at gskrug1992@icloud.com or 3350111.
Health & Wellness Walk Group: A walking group will start on Wednesday,
June 10th, also at 6pm (weather permitting). Meet at the Old Sauk Rd.
entrance to the Owen Conservation Park. If you have any questions, you can
contact Kristie Besch at kbesch0432@aol.com. Otherwise, grab your walking
shoes and we'll see you on June 10th!
June 14th Voter’s Meeting: The Voter’s Meeting of Mount Olive’s adult
membership is NEXT Sunday, June 14th after late service. There is no
specific action required for this meeting (it is an off-election year for
leadership), but it is a great opportunity to hear what is going on with board
leadership and plans for the church. This meeting will include a report from
the just concluded LCMS South Wisconsin District Convention and
information on possible new staffing opportunities (our hope to get a
traditional Vicar from the current class of pastoral students did not work out
due to a limited number of candidates).
Just Bakery: Delicious baked goods will be for sale again on Sunday, June
28th, between services. Just Bakery is a program of Madison Urban
Ministries and helps former inmates learn baking skills to assist them in
finding gainful employment. The sale of the bakery items helps support this
important ministry. Thanks for your support!
Local “Mission Trip”: Mt. Olive members have the opportunity to
participate in our own local “mission trip”. For the past two summers
members have painted, cleaned, bagged, mowed, trimmed, built, etc., on two
mission trips to Cleveland, OH, and Lexington, SC. The Outreach Board is
planning a weekend to do some of those same activities here in the Madison
area. One of our members could use some help and has a home that is in
need of a little TLC. Our tentative weekend for this project is Saturday and
Sunday, June 27th and 28th. We are looking for many helpers!! If you can
come for just an hour or two or longer would be great – 1 day or both days –
all help will be appreciated! Please look for a sign-up clipboard at the Signup Center. (tentative back-up dates are July 11th and 12th) Let’s show our
support and help one of our members in need. THANK YOU!! See Connie
LaRowe with any questions.
2015 VBS - Thailand Trek: Help our children learn that God is real, loving,
forgiving and forever! VBS will be held the week of June 15-19 (9 am-noon)
and the theme for the week is “Cross Culture–Thailand Trek.” Register
online at mountolive-lutheran.org or fill out a registration form at the VBS
table in the Narthex. We are still in need of more adult crew leaders. A
description of the role can be found on the VBS table. Please prayerfully
consider the opportunity to share your love of God. Contact Kirsten Koehler
at kkoehler2@gmail.com with questions about volunteering. Please also
consider providing a donation for this program. We are expecting 100+
children this year and are in need of items such as plates, napkins, juice and
other items listed on the donation tags at the VBS table. Please return
donations NO LATER than June 14. Thank you for your generosity!
