Purpose: To identify a variety of organisms and fossil types and connect them to a specific
time in Earth’s history.
Materials: Various fossil samples
Geologic timeline
Analysis:
1. Use the geologic timeline to place the fossil specimens into their appropriate Era.
Include organism name and number for easy reference. Within each Era, list the
fossils chronologically from oldest at the bottom to youngest at the top.
2. Give 3 reasons why a living organism, upon death, may not produce a fossil record.
