International Soft Matter Workshop
Beijing, Auguest 16-17
Dear Friends,
The International Soft Matter Workshop will be held at the Institute of Physics, Chinese
Academy of Sciences, in Beijing, China, on August 16-17, 2014.
The aim of this workshop is to bring soft matter researchers from different disciplines
together to share ideas and to facilitate cooperation. The workshop includes a wide range of
topics in the field of soft matter research, from colloids, polymer and membrane
to granular, microfluidics and active matter. This year, we have more than 100 participants, and
we are confident this will be a fruitful meeting. Some detail information of the workshop is listed
below:
1. Registration
Registration is required, and is free. Staff will be assisting participants to register at hotel
lobbies on August 15, and later onsite at the workshop.
2. Venues
The workshop will be held at Room 234 of Building M at the Institute of Physics. Poster
session will be held in the hallway outside of Room 234. Lunches and dinners will be served at
Wuke Restaurant located on the campus of IOP.
3. Workshop formats
The workshop includes two plenary lectures, more than 30 invited talks and a poster session.
The time for plenary lectures is 40 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions. Invited talks are 18
minutes long plus 2 for questions. Poster boards will be provided onsite, please remove your
posters at the end of the workshop.
4. Accommodations
Several hotels are conveniently located near the IOP. Please take advantage of the discount

5. Transportation
From the airport
The most convenient way to get to the IOP from the airport is to take the airport shuttle bus
Line 5 bound for Zhongguancun (中关村), which takes you right to the doorstep of the IOP. The
price of a ticket is 24 RMB, and the trip takes about 45 minutes. Get off the bus at the last stop.
For more information about the airport shuttle buses, please visit
http://en.bcia.com.cn/traffic/airbus/index.shtml
You can also take a taxi from the airport. The cost is between 100-150 RMB per trip.
Please be aware that rush-hour traffic in Beijing can considerably delay both shuttle bus and
taxi services, and plan your trip accordingly.
