Charles Cannan…Charles Canaan has over 20 years of diverse nursing experience in a variety of healthcare settings, to include inpatient, outpatient, home and organizational settings. His education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, Coding for Health Care Professionals Certificate from Trident technical College in Charleston, South Carolina, a Graduate Studies Certificate in Alcohol and Drug studies and a Master of Public Health Degree in Health Promotion and Education from the University of South Carolina. He currently provides education and consultation to Medicare Part A and Part B providers with learning needs. Dan George…Dan has been with the Medicare program since 2004. In 2008, he became part of Palmetto GBA’s Congressional Unit. This unit handled complex inquiries for Part A, Part B and Home Health and Hospice. His experience is extensive in, but not limited to, coverage polices, compliance, billing, enrollment, and systems. In 2007 and 2008, he was a manager for Palmetto GBA’s Beneficiary Call Center. Prior to working with Medicare, Dan worked in skilled nursing facilities for 12 years. He directed Dietary Departments, which included participation in nutritional assessments, care planning, wound rounds, and patient documentation. Jennifer Hodge… is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Nursing . She began her nursing practice in the emergency department and soon moved on to the Pediatric ICU. After completion of her Masters in Business, she moved to Savannah, Georgia to manage the Children’s Hospital at Memorial Health. During her time leading the Children’s Hospital, extensive changes took place including: renovation of the inpatient pediatric unit, bringing the 43 bed Level III NICU beneath the Children’s Hospital umbrella as well as the establishment of a Hematology/ Oncology and Surgery Unit. Many Pediatric subspecialty programs were established, including Pediatric Endocrinology and Pediatric neurosurgery, greatly increasing access to subspecialty pediatric care in southeast Georgia. Seeing a need to broaden her nursing experience, she moved into Case Management and became Manager of Clinical Resource Management at Memorial Health, a 538 bed, Level I Trauma Center. During her tenure, she led a team to reduce emergency department recidivism, working with peers at other institutions to establish community care plans for recidivists as well as alternate sources of nonemergent care for these patients. She joined Georgia Medical Care Foundation as a Quality Advisor in 2009 and began intensive Quality Improvement work, focusing on improving care for Medicare beneficiaries. Currently, she is working as Georgia Aim Lead for the Integrating Care for Populations and Communities/ Care Transition team. In this role, she is leading the effort to reduce statewide readmission rates and working with various communities of providers to improve communication and patient care. Additionally, Jennifer is the National Coordinating Center’s Regional Organizer working with 12 southeastern states to assist Quality Improvement Organizations in this work as well. She is the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation (INCC) through 2015, is a member of the 2016 Infusion Nurses Society’s (INS) Standards of Practice Committee, is a technical expert on the Community Health Accreditation Partner’s (CHAP) Subcommittee for developing the new Infection Prevention and Control (ISPC) Standards for the home care industry, and is a department editor and contributing author of the “Infection Prevention” column for the Home Healthcare Now journal. Mary St. Pierre, RN, BSN, MGA…After retiring from the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) in 2013, Mary served as a national home health and hospice consultant. At this time she is engaged in an exclusive consulting agreement with HEALTHCAREfirst, providing regulatory guidance in the design and maintenance of sortware and data analytics. While at NAHC, Ms. St. Pierre oversaw the operations of the Regulatory Affairs Department, tracking regulations and influencing regulatory bodies such as CMS, FDA, and OSHA. In addition, she prepared educational programs, presented speeches and programs and kept the membership abreast of regulatory and clinical information through articles in NAHC publications. Ms. St. Pierre had 26 years experience as a home care nurse, clinical supervisor and manager within a large metropolitan home health agency prior to joining NAHC in 1993.
