Dr. Jeff W. Garis
Dr. Jeff W. Garis is Senior Director for Career Services at Penn State
University, effective August 1, 2011 and is an Affiliate Professor of
Counselor Education. Additionally, he is a licensed Psychologist in
Pennsylvania. Dr. Garis served as Director of the Florida State
University Career Center from 1992 through 2011. He was also an
affiliate faculty member of the FSU Counseling Psychology and
Psychological Services in Education programs. Prior to his career at
FSU, Dr. Garis was associated with Career Development Services at
Penn State University for more than 20 years. He holds a Ph.D. in
Counselor Education, an M.Ed. in Counselor Education and a B.S. in
Psychology; all from Penn State. He has authored numerous
publications regarding the application of computer-assisted guidance to
college career counseling. He is co-author of a Chapter addressing
counseling services in Upcraft and Gardner’s book, The Freshman
Year Experience published by Jossey-Bass. Dr. Garis also is the coauthor of a book entitled Handbook for the College/University Career
Center published by Greenwood Press. Dr. Garis is the Senior Editor
and chapter author of a book published in Fall2007 by Jossey Bass
entitled Emerging ePortfolios: Opportunities for Student Affairs.
Dr. Garis has been active in conducting program reviews and site
visitations of university career centers. Recent reviews include
Stanford, University of Central Florida, Loyola Marymount University
and Florida Atlantic University. His international consultations have
included: University of the West Indies campuses in Jamaica,
Barbados and Trinidad; University of Costa Rica-San Jose and
Turrialba campuses; and the People’s Republic of China National
Ministry of Education in Beijing and Shanghai.
