MCST PEER LEADER PROGRAM GOAL
Morris County School of Technology’s Peer Leader Program will provide an
opportunity for selected 11th and 12th graders to improve their
communication and leadership skills while helping incoming freshmen make
a positive transition to high school.
MCST PEER LEADER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Roles
•Provide support and guidance for mentees – new 9th grade students.
• Share your freshmen year experience with mentees and help mentees with
questions.
• Refer your mentees to other resources when you do not know how to help.
• Keep all information shared by your mentees confidential. However, there
are certain situations when you need to break confidentiality.
• Set a good example for your mentees by following school rules, achieving
good grades, and demonstrating leadership skills.
• Listen to your mentees and be respectful of mentees’ feelings.
• Encourage mentees to participate in extracurricular activities.
Responsibilities
• Participate in Peer Leader Training in August and other trainings as
necessary during the school year
• Assist with Freshmen Orientation
• Attend afterschool meetings with Ms. Evans and Mr. Lopreiato once a
month
• Provide ongoing contact with mentees (Try to contact mentees once every
two weeks by phone, e-mail, or in person)
• Plan monthly meetings for 9th grade students in your academy.
•On a monthly basis, meet with assigned 9th grade groups during lunch
periods.
• Represent the school during recruitment activities by giving tours and
speaking to community members.
• Meet with Ms. Evans and Mr. Lopreiato when further guidance is needed
