Costume Tutor (Young Arts Club)
This role will lead a group of 14-16 year olds in a 20 hour, 5 week costume design section of
a National Art and Design Saturday Club course.
This role will involve possibly collaborating with a local theatre and working to a brief,
students will learn the fundamentals of costume design and set-dressing in theatre and how
it differs from fashion or merchandising. An emphasis on this course is pathways into the
Creative Industries. Active links with a theatre or performing arts organisation would
therefore be an advantage.
Millinery/Hatmaking Tutor (Young Arts Club and Short Courses)
Short Course
This role involves teaching a 5 week course for adults, 6-9pm in April 2015. Courses are
scheduled for Tuesdays but this could be negotiated (Wed/Thurs). Courses will run w/c 20
April - 18 May. You will teach a range of millinery skills (Hat blocks are available). You may
wish to deliver the course as a series of one-week masterclasses, covering for example
fascinators, working with feathers, felting, etc.
Young Arts Club
Teaching on Young Arts Club, you may deliver between one and five sessions for students
aged 14-16 as part of a 25 week National Art&Design Saturday Club course. An emphasis
on this course is pathways into the Creative Industries so a practising milliner is preferred.
Awareness of trends forecasting, fashion styling and producing accessories for industry
would be an advantage.
This role will lead a group of 14-16 year olds in a 20 hour, 5 week costume design section of
a National Art and Design Saturday Club course.
Fashion/Textiles Tutor (Young Arts Club)
This role is to teach on Evening Arts Club Fashion and Textiles (14-18 year olds),
Monday evenings, 22 Sept - 1 Dec and 12 Jan - 23 Mar with a break for half term. Each
course is a new intake of students, lasts 10 weeks, and is 6-9pm in the College fashion
studios. You may wish to produce a garment and teach pattern cutting techniques or you
may wish to work with more immediate and or innovative methods of designing/making
garments such as using recycled materials, working on the stand and customising
garments. You will need to create a fun and engaging course that is suited to the age
group.
You will also teach on Easter Fashion Club and Summer Fashion Club (9-13 year olds).
We are looking to appoint two members of staff to teach on these popular courses.
Easter and Summer Fashion courses are typically 30 hours long, Monday - Friday, 10
am - 4pm.
Easter 2015 is 7-10 April (4 days due to bank holiday) and Summer 2015 will be in
August 2015. You will develop a fun and engaging course which incorporates innovative
use of materials and or working to a brief. You may wish to cover styling and fashion
photography to document the work, produce a mini-fashion show or ensure there is a
take-home product by the end of the week.
Opportunities for teaching Fashion on Saturday Arts Club, 10 am - 2pm may be
available. Teaching is for 5 week blocks. Some cover sessions in Textiles will be
available on 28 March and 23 May 2015.
Dressmaking Tutor (Short Courses)
A vacancy has arisen to teach on Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels of the
Dressmaking Short Course.
Dressmaking courses run on Tuesdays. The day of the course is potentially open to
negotiation. Courses are 10 weeks long, 6-9pm, commencing 23 Sept - 2 Dec (break for
half term) and 13 Jan - 24 Mar (break for half term).
We welcome approaches to teach on our Young Arts Club from Dressmaking Short
Course Tutor applicants.
Pattern Cutting Tutor (Short Courses)
Due to the popularity of our Pattern Cutting Short Courses, a vacancy has arisen to
teach on Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels of the course.
You will have significant pattern cutting experience, ideally gained in an industrial
environment. Awareness of both domestic and industry approaches to pattern cutting is
desirable. You will be able to instruct adults in basic sewing skills in addition to pattern
cutting techniques so that students know how to produce a block and create and adapt
patterns from it. Students will construct garments to toile stage.
You will work with our existing Pattern Cutting Short Course Tutor to ensure that you are
both teaching at the same level to ensure a consistent level of skills for students
progressing from one level to the next.
