Megalodon Geometry Lesson
1. Assign each student a tooth position
2. Mark three points on the tooth using Sketch Up
a. Crown tip
b. Crown-root junction on mesial edge
c. Crown-root junction on distal edge
3. Connect the points to make a triangle
4. Measure the base of the triangle (that’s your crown width)
5. Measure the other two dimensions of the triangle (that’s your edge lengths)
6. Now draw a line perpendicular from the crown tip to the base of the triangle and measure it
(that’s your crown height)
7. Now mark the midpoint of triangle base
8. Draw a line from the crown tip to the midpoint and measure the angle that it forms (that’s your
crown angle)
9. Record all measurements in a spreadsheet
10. Challenge: Can you figure out the three angles of the triangle using geometry theorems and the
previous measurements? … These might help: basic theorems of geometry
