Job Description and Person Specification Last updated: <date> JOB DESCRIPTION Post title: Teaching Fellow in Earth Science Academic Unit/Service: Ocean and Earth Science Faculty: Natural and Environmental Sciences Career Pathway: Education, Research and Enterprise (ERE) *ERE category: Education pathway Posts responsible to: Head of Ocean and Earth Science Posts responsible for: No direct supervisory responsibility Post base: Office-based/Non Office-based (see job hazard analysis) Level: 4 Job purpose To undertake research project management and engagement activities for the Oman Drilling Project and to teach at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities % Time 1. Support to overall management of the Oman Drilling Project, including overseeing logistic 30 % arrangement and outreach activities, planning science roster for drilling, logging and core description, organising internal and external project meetings, and maintain database about project activities, staff and samples and output. 2. Coordinate pre-drilling, implementation and post-drilling activities of the Oman Drilling Project, and coordinate research activities between different scientific disciplines. 20% 3. Support the teaching objectives of Ocean and Earth Science by delivering teaching to students at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, through allocated lectures, tutorials, practicals, seminars and/or field trips. Set and mark coursework and exams, providing constructive feedback to students. Set and supervise research projects at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, providing advice on study skills and helping with learning problems and defining learning objectives. 40 % 4. Internal and external relationships Member of the ICDP Oman Drilling Project Management Team. Member of the Academic Unit Board, Examination Board and of such Academic Unit committees relevant to their administrative duties. New appointees will be assigned a senior colleague to guide their development and aid their integration into the Academic Unit and university. Teaching and administrative duties will be allocated by the Head of Academic Unit, within the context of the teaching programmes agreed by the Academic Unit Curriculum and Education and Quality Committee. May collaborate with colleagues in other institutions on original teaching and learning practice.
