Executive Director
The Regional Development Corporation (RDC), a successful and dynamic private, 501 (c)(3) non-profit
organization headquartered in Espanola, NM seeks an Executive Director. The Executive Director is
responsible for general management and leadership of the RDC, with a mission to provide leadership in
regional economic development and diversification in alignment with local, statewide, and national
initiatives that add long-term value to the regional economy.
The RDC envisions a diverse regional economy where thoughtful and cooperative planning results
in an environment that nurtures business and entrepreneurial development. To this end, the RDC
creates collaborative platforms for stakeholders to achieve their economic development objectives.
The RDC (www.rdcnm.org) was formed more than fifteen years ago as a US Department of Energy
(DOE)-sanctioned Community Re-use Organization (CRO). The Corporation has matured and diversified
its funding sources and has an annual budget of approximately $2.5M. The RDC is stable and successful
primarily as a result of the quality of the work performed for customers and the strength of our
partnerships with our stakeholders. The RDC has a small staff of talented full-time employees plus
contributing subcontractors and part-time employees. Funding sources include the U.S. Department of
Energy, Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS - the management and operations contractor for Los
Alamos National Laboratory), Los Alamos County and local governments and Private Foundations.
Projects are executed at the local, regional and state-wide levels.
The Executive Director's key responsibilities include:
1. Developing and implementing, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, a strategic
business plan;
2. Developing and directing organizational policies, procedures and initiatives;
3. Managing the financial, human resources, quality, contract and marketing functions of a
growing and dynamic organization;
4. Identifying, securing and sustaining diversified funding sources;
5. Hiring, mentoring and managing a talented, specialized staff;
6. Strengthening existing strategic partnerships and forging new relationships that best
position the RDC for success within Northern New Mexico and the broader State
economic development community;
7. Developing, implementing, and managing local and regional economic development projects;
8. Facilitating collaborative community projects that are consistent with the RDC strategic
plan; and,
9. Actively promoting and disseminating RDC ideas and capabilities to federal and other
governmental officials, including Department of Energy/NNSA, NASA, Department of
Commerce, and other federal officials; State and local government officials; the Eight Northern
Pueblos and regional and national conferees.
Candidates for the Executive Director will be evaluated on the following experience, knowledge and
critical skills:
1. Demonstrated, successful, professional-level experience leading and directing the work of
others and managing a complex organization, some of which must be in a non-profit
organization and/or in economic/community development;
2. Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required or equivalent demonstrated experience;
Masters degree preferred or equivalent demonstrated experience.
3. Demonstrated expertise, and capability with a variety of economic and community development
concepts, practices, and procedures in successful communities and ability to adapt those to the
economic, social and political environment in Northern New Mexico.
4. Experience in developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes
major donors, foundation and government grants, membership, corporate sponsorship and online giving campaigns. Experience preparing federal grant applications preferred.
5. Awareness and understanding of the historical basis for the strategic partnership between the
RDC and Los Alamos National Laboratory;
6. Familiarity with contract processes and standard business accounting concepts including
budgeting, cash flow, P&L and Balance Sheets, as well as taxes, worker's compensation,
benefits and other small business administrative areas;
7. Experience and familiarity with the tri-county region (Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and
Rio Arriba Counties);
8. Excellent writing skills;
9. Poised public speaker with experience communicating effectively and persuasively to a
variety of audiences;
10. Entrepreneurial spirit, high degree of initiative, effective at multi-tasking and enthusiastic
about innovation and adventure;
11. Respectful of peers and subordinates with an open mind to new ideas and methods;
12. Collaborative team-player willing to partner with other individuals and organizations to
achieve mutual success;
13. Extensive experience with strategic planning, goal setting and execution of a strategic
plan;
14. Effective communication with and utilization of the skills of a diverse Board of Directors;
15. Familiarity with the current political infrastructure and history of Northern New Mexico
communities; and
16. Familiarity with and an appreciation for the rich economic development opportunities for the
Northern New Mexico region.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
