RESEARCH DATA CANADA (RDC) RDC Federated Pilot Purpose: The TC3+ seem set to introduce Data Management Plans as a requirement for funding. The Federated Pilot Project seeks to prototype how services and infrastructure could be marshalled to allow researchers to not only develop plans but to follow them. The pilot project wishes to exploit existing assets embodied in the work of the CARL ARC Project, CANARIE, Compute Canada, and three major data repositories to enable services to as yet unserved researchers. A major goal of the project will be to document requirements and provide a guide for scaling to meeting the needs of large groups of researchers as the DMP requirement rolls out. 2 Components ARC - Library-based research data management network – – – – Support data management planning Develop plan for Centre of expertise for data curation w/ RDC E&T Committee Pilot for preservation infrastructure Report and how to scale up CADC, CBrain, CPDN - Discipline infrastructure and services – How much of these infrastructures and services can be adapted to serve wider needs across unserved communities COMPUTE CANADA, CANARIE – networking, storage, and computational infrastructure – How will such infrastructure need to scale to support large scale deployment. Metrics - CASRAI/RDC – DMP Metrics in Peer Review – Metrics for monitoring and measuring the success of DMPs 3 RDC Federated Pilot Project ARC Metrics CANARIE/ Compute Canada CADC/CPDN/CBRAIN/ UNSERVED RESEARCHERS 4 RDC Federated Pilot Goals A collaborative and coordinated pilot to: • Develop and support national approach to data management plans (ARC) • Plan for centre of expertise for data curation (ARC and RDC E&T) • Library-based data preservation network demonstration pilot (ARC) • Disciplinary infrastructure + demonstration project (RDC+) • Metrics and evaluation – RDC/CASRAI • CANARIE/Compute Canada – to understand needs for scaling up The result will be a report detailing the lessons learned and how these pilot efforts may be scaled to meet future needs. 5 RDC Federated Pilot – Progress • Committee actively at work • Islandora and Archivematica installed in Compute Canada facilities with storage that can support the project • Researchers will be selected mid-September 2014 • Pilot underway early October 6
