Job description
Main Duties & Responsibilities















You will be required to carry out vehicle safety inspections, servicing and
vehicle fault diagnostics specifying the correct method of repair and parts to
be used within defined quality standards and within the most cost effective
manner when carrying out your work.
You will be expected to record individual job times for the repair action either
manually or electronically ensuring you meet the recommended ICME time for
each job undertaken.
You will be expected to ensure parts replaced under warranty are returned
fully labelled and in a clean condition and all parts replaced are booked using
the correct procedure.
You will be required to adhere to good housekeeping practices including
general tidiness in the workshop and the return of all tools and equipment to
their designated place.
You will be required to attend on-road vehicle breakdowns and recoveries
within the Oxfordshire area during normal working hours and OOH.
You will be required to carry out vehicle road testing where necessary to
determine specific vehicle defects or following any remedial repairs to a
vehicle
You will be required to report sickness to the Senior Technician in line with the
Skanska HR policy as soon as possible.
You are responsible for ensuring you are adequately trained to deliver the
service and you must bring to the attention of the Senior Technician any
equipment shortfalls or additional training requirements you feel you may
require.
You are responsible for your own Health and Safety within the Oxfordshire
Workshop in line with company policies and procedures.
You are responsible for ensuring you only use lifting equipment within the
Oxfordshire Workshop that has been Inspected every 6 months and is colour
coded. If you find any equipment to be unserviceable report it to the Senior
Technician and quarantined the defective equipment until it has been repaired
or replaced.
You are responsible for ensuring that you follow the process that is in place
throughout the Oxfordshire Workshop for the disposal of waste oils.
You are responsible for ensuring you have read and signed to confirm you
understand the risk assessments and that you are aware they are available
within the workshop.
You must attend the workshop monthly Tool box talks and any other training
that is deemed to be required in line with Skanska policies.
You are responsible for ensuring you have had adequate training on all
equipment prior to use and if not you must bring it to the attention of the
Senior Technician.
You will be required to go onto the OOH duty Technician standby rota to
assist with the Workshop meeting our contractual conditions to cover out of
hours breakdowns.

You will be required to maximise your productivity within the Workshop,
ensuring you bring to the attention of the Senior Technician any downtime on
a daily basis to ensure we are obtaining value for money within the Workshop
Profile
Skills/Knowledge /Experience & Qualifications
Role Specific Requirements:





Driving Licence Category B, C and D.
Time Served Apprenticeship.
City and Guilds Craft or Technician.
MOT Inspector Class 4,5,7
FTA HGV/PSV Inspector Certification
Technical Knowledge:




Technicians must provide certification that they are fully conversant
with the overhaul and repair of vehicle systems including engines,
automatic / semi-automatic gearboxes, drive trains, compressed air
systems, hydraulic systems, braking systems, steering systems,
suspension systems, cooling systems and basic auto electrics.
Technicians must be fully conversant with the safe operation of
workshop equipment including brake rolling road testers, hydraulic
vehicle lifts, pressurized oil and waste systems, battery chargers
and starters, trolley jacks, pressure wash and automatic washing
equipment, digital smoke readers, headlamp alignment testers,
hydraulic jacks and testing equipment, drilling machines, torque
wrenches, pedestal grinders and general portable equipment (air
guns, drills, electric and pneumatic hand tools).
Technicians must be fully familiar with all relevant diagnostic
equipment including hydraulic flow meters, air and vacuum gauges,
multi meters, temperature gauges, micrometers, Vernier gauges,
engine and gearbox laptop testing equipment.
Technicians must have basic skills in gas and electric welding,
burning and basic body repairs and be able to attend vehicle
manufacturer product training courses, VOSA/FTA vehicle inspection
training and vehicle recovery training as required.

Additional Information






Technicians will be expected to provide Out of hours assistance to
cover breakdowns throughout the summer/ winter periods.
Technicians will be based at a designated Workshop location, but
may be required at times to work at any of the other workshop
facilities with the County.
Technicians will be expected to be sufficiently flexible in respect to
working hours and job roles to ensure that commitments are
fulfilled.
Technicians will be expected to establish and maintain effective
relationships with colleagues and participate at team meetings.
Technicians will be expected to represent the company in a
professional manner at all times whilst carrying out their duties.
Technicians will be expected to carry out any other duties as may
reasonably be requested by the Senior Technician or line manager
