Summer Reading Assignments for 2015 A. C. Flora High School All students at A. C. Flora High School are encouraged to complete summer reading assignments. Parents, please review the selections with your child. If you object to a selection for any reason, have your child select a different author/book. If a student is signed up for Honors level English, Advanced Placement English, or IB English, he or she MUST complete additional readings as directed in #2 below. 1. ALL FLORA STUDENTS are encouraged to read one book by one of the award-winning young adult authors listed on the back of this sheet. Students who read one of these books and insightfully complete the graphic organizer attached will receive a classwork grade of 100 upon arriving to class in August. The graphic organizer should reflect your thinking about the plot and your thinking about the larger issues (conflicts, themes) raised by the book. Your writing on the graphic organizer should consist of your own original work. 2. HONORS, AP, AND IB STUDENTS must read an additional book or books as directed below. Please make sure you consult the correct list for your level of English. Your reading of the following books will be assessed on in-class essays during the first two weeks of school. You will be asked to identify and analyze various literary elements about the book(s) and discuss them in an essay format. The topics of those essays will be decided by the teachers at each level (e.g. all English 1 Honors students will take the same assessment, all AP Lit students will take the same assessment, etc.). Summer reading assessments will be counted in the minor assessment category.
