Catalog Description
Morphologic and plylogenetic relationships of animals from protists to mammals. A one semester hour
laboratory experience is included.
Course Description
This course serves as an introductory course in the study of animals. Students will learn the biological
specializations and phylogenetic relationships of organisms in the animal kingdom.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course students will
a) Discuss the ecological relationships of animals
b) Identify the position of animals on a phylogenetic tree
c) Discuss how animals are positioned on a phylogenetic tree
Teaching Methods
I will use lectures, lab demonstrations, and lab exercises to achieve course objectives.

Terms and Concepts Tests (TCTS)
At the beginning of each class you may be given a short test/quiz on important “Terms and Concepts” from
assigned chapters in the textbook.
Course Requirements:
Attendance: Students who miss more than 25% of BIO 103 classes will not pass the course. When in my class,
students are required to be on task from bell to bell. Being on task not only means completing the work, but
also sitting up, staying awake, and contributing relevant information to our lessons.
Homework/Assignments/Projects: All assignments are listed on the board. Students are responsible to check
daily. Students are expected to turn in all assignments on time. Ten points per day will be deducted for late
assignments.
