TIMBER 1 How is the trade and production of timber unethical environmental and socially Maitha Jumaa Alkaabi 201204625 Col-145-025 Derick Singh TIMBER 2 The amazing greenish shoots of tress and forest shift us to a peaceful place. As we know nothing stays the way it is. Destroying forests for timbers is very dangerous and the publics is not aware of how essential forests are important in the terms of services and products for our daily life. Timber comes in two varieties, softwood with evergreen leaves and hardwood with very wide leaves that falls in autumn. It is used to produce furniture and for many wood based composites. Wood is an important part for any economic timber supply because its supply often sustainable and it can be used and re-used. Economic timber supply operates like any other commodity. If the cost of the timber prices increases there will be more supply. Cutting down forests for timber can benefit some but also affect others. It’s a complex and hot issue, especially when it comes to trees because trees are related to the atmosphere by producing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide. Timber trade and production has a huge impact on the environment as well as on the society. Every year lumber harvesting companies devastate our environment by destroying forest and it may affect the climate change by unethical cutting of earth forest. Mankind enjoys destroying everything beautiful. Timber can affect the environment because without tress our biosphere can’t function; if they continue cutting down wood soon there will be no wood in the forest. Some gases can be excess our atmosphere are causing global warming. One of the gases is carbon monoxide, photosynthesis that tress does turn into carbon monoxide to oxygen that helps as to breath by cutting down tress will destroy the ability of turning carbon monoxide into oxygen (Crimson, 2013). Forests are a habitat for many animals and cutting down tress will affect them because it destructs the wildlife that lives there. It causes a huge and serious damage to the environment. This unethical way of cutting down timber and destroying forest is worst than it seems. It has certainly consequences on people around the global. Many people depend on the forest to provide their food plus so it will clearly affect us. Cutting wood has a TIMBER 3 huge impact on the environment and also on the climate change. Companies that have been chosen for the FSC certification that there will be less on cutting down timber, maintaining the integrity of the environment mitigate the effects of climate changes. Improve the workers conditions, and the reduction of social conflicts of harvest wood (Crimson, 2013). Cutting down timber from trees can cause a serious damage to the natural. Removing trees can have a negative affects on our life later or for the coming years later. There are negative social impact causes by cutting down timber. Some of the consequences that the timber has on the society it produce a harm toxic substance that can affect the human body. Frist, Reports show that timber can have a huge impact on the workers because it produces unsafe conditions that can harm these workers and also it has toxic herbicides that can harm their health (Timber Theft, n.d). Loggers are usually often overlooked by the serious damage that cause from timber and how a high number of loggers can be affected. Second, the lost of benefits that provided by forest can have problems in people life also on the wild nature. When watersheds are destroyed it cause the river to become polluted. Rivers are the only sources to carry the potable water. In the article “Municipalities contribute to unethical logging” (Dan Watch, 2010) if we keep on cutting down timber, it’s the central cause to loss food and pollution in the river that will lead to health problems on forest dependent communities. Loggers should only use timber when they really needs it so it can not cause a huge lost in land forest and endanger many lives of billion people that are living there. People around the global should know how it causes suffer and pain and how cutting down timber can do to other human beings and poor countries. The less people avoid using timber the less effects that it can cause to the society. The more you will save many lives from being harmed by these substances that can cause for timber. TIMBER 4 As we can see, timber has massive effects on the nature and the health of people. Cutting down trees to produce timber disturbs the forest and also the people living in areas surrounding the forest by reducing the level of oxygen in the air. Less oxygen in the air causes difficulty in breathing for people and loggers are exposed to toxic herbicides substance produced while cutting the trees down. If no solution is found for this problem, people living in areas surrounding the forest will eventually suffer and die.
