The normal expectation is that the successful applicant will be appointed to the
minimum of the agreed scale with annual increments on 1 October each year
(subject to completing six months service).

Purpose of
the Post
To deliver its top 20 ambition Swansea University is seeking to appoint an
Associate Professor with excellence in teaching in the College of……….
An Associate professor on an academic career pathway with excellence in
teaching will be required to contribute to teaching and graduate supervision, at
both undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition they are expected to
share organisational and academic management responsibilities across the
College where required.
The post also requires high quality delivery of teaching and student learning and
a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience.

This provides the indicative performance levels for all academic staff at
Swansea University and these criterion will be used in the recruitment process.
Main Duties
1. Teaching (enhanced)
a) Teaching Delivery and Review
Effective delivery of the teaching, assessment and quality assurance of
programmes of study.
Responding to feedback received and reviewing teaching activities at a
programme level, to ensure that learning outcomes are effectively
achieved, taking account of feedback received.
Taking on a leadership role in learning, teaching and assessment
b) Teaching Innovation
Enhancing a sustained track record of T&S activities leading to
demonstrable outcomes or publications in appropriate media, showing a
continuing upward trajectory. Playing an active and significant role in the
strategic direction and development of Teaching and Scholarship in the
College
c) Dissemination, Impact and Esteem
Ensuring a sustained commitment to dissemination across the sector –
with outcomes
Contributing to the institutional teaching impact in the subject area
External recognition of scholarly performance at this level
d) Advancing Practice
Sustaining a record of incremental development in terms of innovative
contribution and development, supporting your continuous professional
development
2. Research (core)
a) Research Outputs and Activity
Disseminating research findings through appropriate written, oral
or other media both internally and externally to the University.
b) Research Projects and Grants
Securing the resources necessary to underpin research activity,
with success as appropriate to the discipline.
c) Esteem
Promoting the subject and the College as appropriate
3. Management (core)
a) Contributing to College Activities
Taking an active part in formulating College decisions and
contributing to activities beyond the immediate research,
teaching or scholarship commitments.
b) Participating in Professional Activities
Engaging with professional activities related to the discipline
through networking at conferences or involvement in external
groups
c) Managing Self and Others
Planning, prioritising and progressing own work to achieve own
objectives and support others in achieving theirs.
General
Duties
1. The University has adopted a position where quality assurance
procedures are integrated throughout all its activities and all staff
must conform to these procedures
2. Members of staff are encouraged to maintain and enhance links with
the professional institutions. Engaging with other academics in the
field, through networking at conferences, involvement in formal
groups, or participation in professional activity.
3. The development of industry/university partnerships and new
research projects is an important part of the role.
4. Staff appointed to these positions will be expected to develop and
deliver a range of teaching materials and will work closely with the
Swansea Academy of Learning and Teaching
(SALT) http://salt.swan.ac.uk/en/ SALT aims to enhance the student
learning experience through sharing and promoting good practice
and aims to enhance the profile of learning and teaching
5. To fully engage with the University’s Performance Enabling and
Welsh Language policies
6. To promote equality and diversity in working practices and maintain
positive working relationships
7. To conduct the job role and all activities in accordance with safety,
health and sustainability policies and management systems, in order
to reduce risks and impacts arising from the work activity

Essential Criteria
1) A Higher Degree in .............
2) Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or equivalent in
terms of impact and esteem
3) Successful sustained evidence as a portfolio leader/Programme
Director/leader over the last 3 years demonstrating support of others
4) Evidence of implementing innovation in own teaching linked to QAA
benchmarks within the last 5 years
5) Development of collaborative teaching innovation in a lead role within the
past 5 years
6) Please provide at least 3 examples to evidence national recognition in the
last 5 years
7) A successful funding bid or revenue generation in the last 3 years to secure
the resources necessary to underpin research activity, with success as
appropriate to the discipline
8) Invited on at least 2 occasions as speaker or session convener at national
or international pedagogic event in the past 5 years
9) Evidence of two 2* outputs or equivalent in the last 5 years to demonstrate
disseminating research findings through appropriate written, oral or other
media both internally and externally to the University
10) Evidence of successful teaching or supervising students, evidencing the
ability to achieve high quality Module Feedback Scores as expected of an
Associate Professor in Swansea (see attached profile)
11) Please provide 4 examples to evidence of the management skills to play an
active part in formulating College decisions and contributing to activities
beyond the immediate commitments
12) Evidence of engaging with professional activities related to the discipline
