JENKINTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA (JUNE 11, 2015): The public is invited to attend three upcoming free talks
on June 15, June 23 and July 28 by noted local authors and a University of Pennsylvania researcher at Rydal
Park, the non-profit, continuing care retirement community located in Abington Township, Montgomery
County.
Rydal Park presents stimulating programming year-round, featuring a broad range of events, guests and

MONDAY, JUNE 15
Author Jim Remsen, Visions of Teaoga (7:30 pm). Former Philadelphia Inquirer religion editor and author Jim Remsen
discusses his latest book Visions of Teaoga, an engrossing historical novel about the Indian Tribes in and around
Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Colonials of the same area during the late 1700s - and a middle school student of
today who finds a fascinating link to the era. Remsen is co-author of The Intermarriage Handbook: A Guide for Jews
and Christians (HarperCollins).

TUESDAY, JUNE 23
A Thousand Miles Up the Nile: A Journey Through Modern Ancient Egypt (1:30 pm). A photographic essay from an
extraordinary journey through post-revolution Egypt, from Abu Simbel to Old Cairo, and the Temple of Philae to the
pyramids of Giza, only five weeks following the country’s February 2011 revolution. Presented by Stephen R. Phillips,
Ph.D., Cultural Research Coordinator for the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in
Philadelphia. Dr. Phillips is listed with the National Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) and is also a
professional guide for select American tour groups to Egypt and Jordan.
Dr. Stephen R. Phillips, archaeologist with University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, will present a
visual tour of post-revolution Egypt at Rydal Park on June 23
TUESDAY, JULY 28
Deadout (1:30 pm). Philadelphia author Jon McGoran talks about his new book Deadout, the riveting sequel to his
acclaimed biotech thriller Drift, which expands on the theme of genetically modified foods. Deadout also explores
Colony Collapse Disorder, which threatens the world’s honeybee populations. McGoran’s short fiction, nonfiction and
satire have appeared in a variety of publications; under the name D.H. Dublin, he is the author of forensic crime
thrillers Freezer Burn, Blood Poison and Body Trace, from Penguin Books. McGoran was previously editor-in-chief of
Philadelphia publications Grid magazine and The Shuttle newspaper.
