An art education student who takes both Survey of Art History I and II, will receive 3 credits of General Education/Humanities/Fine Arts. New Business: GEAC – Formation of standing committee A proposal is being put forward for three ad hoc committees be formed off of CRC. These ad hoc committees would be 1) University Review Committee (URC), 2) Distance Learning Review Committee (DLRC) and 3) General Education Review Committee (GERC). The new structure would eliminate the need to make changes to the Faculty Senate bylaws. Changes to the Board rule would include adding criteria sections for URC and GERC. This new structure would also be more effective and efficient for the university. The proposed three new ad hoc committees would fit into the curriculum review process at the current institutional body review level which currently includes the Graduate School, Institutional Research, University Libraries, GEAC and DLRC. Reporting lines for this structure would not change. URC, GERC, and DLRC membership would be comprised of members of Faculty Senate as well as other individuals on campus with the necessary technical expertise. Karla Mugler, Kristin Thomas, Helen Qammar, and Sheldon Wrice will work on the wording for GEAC’s section of CRC’s proposal. Topics to be covered include GEAC’s overarching tasks/duties, criteria for reviewing proposals, possible name change of GEAC, and how to dovetail GEAC with IT’s assessment academy for accreditation. ACE Transcripts for Veterans There is a committee on campus that is looking at articulation of military coursework to help Veterans returning to campus. ACE transcripts are currently reviewed and credits go into DARs as elective credits. Themes of courses are appearing and it appears there is potential to equate some of these to General Education. As a result, the committee is suggesting that these credits be entered into DARs as General Education. This would entail setting up tables in DARs. UA would like to be proactive and serve as a leading school for Veterans. Kristin will prepare a list of what UA has now for the committee to review. She will also provide examples and data on how ACE students have progressed. The broader issue of opening up ACE credits beyond Veterans and General Education was also discussed. Meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Karen Greene
