Ancient Civilizations – Educational Project
Throughout the semester students have been studying ancient Greece and the different components of the
civilization. To date we have looked at the people of ancient Greece, the food, the homes, the religion and the education
system.
For their education projects students will be randomly assigned one ancient civilization from the list below that
they will have to research, give a presentation and create a poster board that shows the different aspects of their
civilization.
Students will be assigned one of the following ancient civilizations:
1. Ancient China
2. Ancient Rome
3. Mayans
4. Aztecs
5. Ancient Egypt
6. Vikings
Students will be required to create a written report as well as a poster board that show the following
traditions/beliefs of their ancient civilization:
1. The people
2. Government
3. Religion
4. Food
5. Education
6. Entertainment - Literature and Drama/Sport
The poster board will be comprised of pictures and short descriptions of at least 4 of the 6 traditions/beliefs of
their ancient civilization.
The written report will include further detail of each tradition/belief and should be approximately ¾ to 1 page
per item.
The written component will also detail why the ancient civilization succeeded in it’s location, (why did it do well)
as well as the reason to when and why it perished (what caused it to no longer exist).
Lastly, each student will be responsible for an oral presentation that will be between 4-7 minutes explaining in
detail at least one cultural tradition or belief of their ancient civilization from the list above. Students are free to use a
PowerPoint presentation if they are comfortable doing so to guide them through their presentation.
