Cultural Night: Jan 26 2013
JSA and JASA having event this Friday: Potluck and Game Night: 6:00-8:00pm, Location not decided yet.
(Robin’s Comment: Can’t hold potlucks as a university event so can’t really advertise it, on listservs.. )
TWSA: Nov 21st Thanksgiving dinner at APCC, 6pm- Potluck.
Will be talking to Derek about food for TWSA night
PERMIAS: Preparation for Indonesian Movie Night, which is on Friday, Joyce Powell center, 7:00-9:00pm
For cultural night, the budget hasn’t been done but roles have been divided.
CAOSU event, ultimate single party event on nov 11th – day for single guys in China. Due to timing maybe
and lack of advertising, there weren’t a lot of people.
Next event is 2nd Feb 2013 China night. Seeking sponsorship, already submitted the budget.
Done with posters, developing online ticketing. Connect with Robin to do the online ticketing. Already
recruited many singers and dancers.
ISA planning Deepawali event for this Sunday. Tickets are $6 selling from 1-3pm, ticket available at the
door too. Event time: 6-9pm, dancing and performances and food.
CSA: badminton tournament within the group. Cultural Night is on April 6th, Saturday. They are at the
early stages of preparation, general brainstorming of ideas of what they want in the cultural night.
ALAS: Nothing to report.
VSA: Officer meeting yesterday. Discussed what went well and what didn’t go well in the retreat. Looked
at the information in the binder, thought they were very user friendly. Meeting this Wednesday at MU
208, introducing committees for the cultural night. April 28 is the Cultural Night.
SASA: Planning on doing soccer tournament within next two weeks. 5 players with two subs.
Bowling night Nov. 30th, Friday of deadweek from 7-11pm.
Re-Cap of ISOSU Retreat.
From 1-10 rate how comfortable you feel moving ahead with the new information you got.
Folder and USB was helpful.
Get contact information for buddies.
ALAS: Hard to find volunteers could the retreats be done earlier. Is it necessary to do out of Corvallis for
the Retreat.
For graduate students: hard at the end of the term
Robin: reason for going out of Corvallis is that there is more distraction here (phone and internet),
people leave.
VSA liked going to retreat but could the location have been closer.
Liked the rotation section on Sunday than the big presentation. Thought rotation to gave a chance to ask
questions
Hiking and bon fire was really good.
Too much training all at once. Robin: The reason why we can’t have a lot of social activities is because
we can’t spend money for only social events.
Liked the skit part, forced (in a good way) to work with other students.
VSA- being old officer it was very repetitive, maybe new officers felt a little left out, maybe split old
officers and new ones
KSA: liked the leadership part, liked talk about what is being a leader, examples of specific situations
were good. They thought we were listening.
Get the affiliate contact information out
leaders that lead the small groups were good, they let us speak than just them talking.
Liked how PLC was involved. Maybe we can do more activities like that that focuses on leadership.
For first year officer, kind of confused of what was expected of them.
Larger groups hard to get everyone heard. Give them time to process information.
More buddies not just one on one.
Ticketing event vs non- ticketing events.
Intention of the event is it should be open to the whole fee paying population. What do we do to
ensure that the entire student body gets a chance to come to the event, and not just be limited to family
and friends. Tickets are gone in 1 or 2 days usually but when we host the event a third of the ballroom is
empty.
Printing tickets cost money. And resources (paper) costly.
Tickets can be used as an advertisement. And they are more inclined to go to the event argument for
yes ticket
No ticket: take the ticket. To get food use raffle tickets.
We produce to capacity so ticket sales don’t drive how much we produce.
When we hand out tickets. People can take multiple tickets. Which kind of doesn’t make sense.
Selling tickets and also saying if there are seats at the same time legally not allowed. Was we are double
booking the seat.
Setting an limit at 2 tickets
Sign-up sheet like whose coming and they can’t come again and get the ticket.
ISOSU budget is not increasing but MU prices are increasing so trying to reduce spending money in any
possible way.
