REWARDS 2014/15 Message for all SOAS University of London Professional Services Support Staff & IFCELS’ Teaching Staff Request for an Accelerated Additional Increment, a Contribution Increment or a One-off Non-Consolidated Payment Professional Services Support Staff and IFCELS’ Teaching Staff who have significantly and consistently exceeded the normal expectation of their role and wish to be considered for an Accelerated Additional Increment or a Contribution Increment or a One-off Non-Consolidated Payment may make a case for an award by completing the Rewards Form RRF1 (for an individual application), or Rewards Form RRF3 (for a team application), available at http://www.soas.ac.uk/hr/procedures/reward/rewardrecog/ , providing a brief – not more than 500 words – statement providing evidence against the relevant criteria. Examples of relevant Criteria and information regarding Accelerated Additional Increments, Contribution Increments or One-off Non-Consolidated Payments Increment can be found at Appendix A, available at http://www.soas.ac.uk/hr/procedures/reward/rewardrecog/. The aim of this process is to provide a coherent and practical approach to both recurrent and one-off or non-consolidated payments made to staff in order to reward individual contribution within their role, and to ensure transparency, fairness and equality for all staff. [Please note that Academic Staff and Faculty & Language Centre Teaching Staff are also able to make a case for an award each year but this is a separate process. Those applications are considered by the Faculty Promotion Panels. The deadline for the submission of those applications for rewards is the same as that for applications for Academic Promotion i.e. by the end of October each year]. Criteria Rewards should relate to the staff member and how he/she carried out their role and not to the role itself. In making an application you should clearly state how the request fulfils the criteria for reward (see Appendix A, available at http://www.soas.ac.uk/hr/procedures/reward/rewardrecog/ ) relevant to your role as otherwise it will not be able to be considered by the Rewards Sub-Committee chaired by the School’s Registrar. Supporting statements by the Head of Department/Line Manager should reflect the strategic objectives of the School, the Directorate/Faculty and the Department and indicate clearly how the performance of the relevant member of staff has contributed in achieving these. The award of Contribution Increments and Accelerated Additional Increments should be used to recognise an individual’s application of accelerated knowledge, skills and/or behaviours which increase their contribution towards School, Faculty and Departmental objectives, over and above the normal expectations of the role for a sustained period (normally more than one year) or where the requirement is clearly on-going. Applications require a statement by the Head of Department/Line Manager, which should be provided on the relevant section on the Reward Form RRF1 or RRF3. Application Process Support Staff and IFCELS’ Teaching staff who wish to apply for a reward should complete the Reward Forms RRF1 OR for a Team Application the Reward Form RRF3 should be completed, accessible at 1 the above link. The Reward Form (RRF1 or RRF3) should be passed on electronically to the Head of Department/Line Manager for their comments by 5.00 p.m. on Wednesday 20 May 2015. The email subject line should read “Rewards and [insert your name]”. The form should clearly state how the request fulfils the criteria relevant to your role(s). Heads of Department/Line Managers should provide a statement at the relevant section and submit the completed form electronically to Rewards@soas.ac.uk by 5.00 p.m. Wednesday 3 June 2015. The Head of Department/Line manager should ensure that the email subject line reads “Rewards and [the applicant’s name is inserted]”. The Head of Department/Line Manager must complete the relevant section whether or not they wish to support the application and in the latter case they should make clear the grounds for not supporting the application within the statement. Head of Department/Line Manager Recommendation In addition to the direct route for employees, the Head of Department/Line Manager may also make a recommendation on behalf of an employee or a Team by completing the Reward Form RRF2 OR the Reward Form RRF4 available at http://www.soas.ac.uk/hr/procedures/reward/rewardrecog/ The Reward Form (RRF2 or RRF4) should clearly state how the request fulfils the criteria relevant to the role(s) and should not be more than a 500-word statement. The statement by the Head of Department/Line Manager should clearly identify the strategic objectives of the School, the Directorate/Faculty and the Department and indicate clearly how the performance of the relevant member of staff has contributed in achieving these. The Head of Department/Line Manager should submit the completed form electronically to Rewards@soas.ac.uk by 5.00 p.m. Wednesday 3 June 2015. Eligibility Professional Services Support Staff and IFCELS’ Teaching Staff in Grade 2 to Grade 9 who wish to be considered for an Accelerated Additional Increment or a Contribution Increment or a One-off NonConsolidated Payment may apply. There is normally a one year qualifying period for all types of payment by the date of submission of the application i.e. you should have been in post at SOAS for one year by the time you submit your application. Additional Information The Rewards Sub-Committee may postpone making a decision and ask to see (or request a written response from) the member(s) of staff and/or her or his Head of Department/Line Manager to obtain further information.
