Build-A-Beetle Project Objective: Construct a “super beetle” that would be the best possible decomposer Think about the characteristics of decomposers that aid in the breakdown of organisms. Your super beetle should incorporate elements of decomposers from the text and what you’ve learned in class. You will be graded on creativity, neatness, labels, description, and Nature’s Recyclers knowledge. You will create a 3-D model and write a description in paragraph form on a piece of lined paper or typed. Guidelines: 1. The beetle must be between 6-12 inches long and sturdy. 2. The insect must have accurate and appropriate proportions, true color and form, etc. 3. The beetle must include at least five features that aid in decomposition. 4. A written description must accompany your model and include: a. The name of your beetle b. A complete description of the beetle’s characteristics i. What does the beetle decompose? ii. How are the parts of the body used in decomposition? In preparation to build your model, you should collect the materials that you will need for construction. These materials can be found around your house, outside, at a store, etc. Possible Building Materials: clay, wire, felt, Styrofoam, paint, Model Magic, aluminum foil, pipe cleaners, nylon stockings, etc. Creativity is encouraged! Your materials must be brought to school on the morning of Friday, January 15, 2016!
