Director, Online & Digital Education JAX Genomic Education The Jackson Laboratory JAX Genomic Education, located in Bar Harbor, ME is seeking an experienced educator to lead its Online and Digital Education Program in the development, implementation, and operation of online education and digital programming. The Director reports to the Vice President for Education. This is a unique opportunity for an education leader and innovator to assist in the transformation of traditional leaning platforms into online and blended online formats. The incumbent will be an expert in online education, instructional design strategies, and educational methodologies. They will play a leadership role in expanding JAX Genomic Education’s audiences, pedagogical scope, instructional design capabilities and instructional services. The Director of Online and Digital Education will provide a vision and strategies for reaching both established and new learner audiences through expanded online programming. The Director will position JAX as a leader in genomic online education. Online education will provide a unifying theme for Genomic Education’s five program areas: STEM, Predoctoral, Postdoctoral, Clinical & Continuing Education, and Courses & Conferences. Through the use of analytics and evaluation of metrics, the Director of Online and Digital Education will assist in the institutional planning and evaluation of online and digital programing across The Jackson Laboratory’s three campuses: Bar Harbor, ME; Farmington, CT; Sacramento, CA. Additionally the incumbent will seek out and support business opportunities in the distance education marketplace and seek and prepare grant funding opportunities to further the JAX education mission. Major Responsibilities: Provide an ongoing vision and brand identity for JAX Genomic Education online and digital programming. • Development and implementation of a strategy for converting a significant body of educational content to online formats. Provide a vision and implementation strategy for the creation of new online materials, with an emphasis on blended online learning. Supervise and evaluate the instructional design of content providers and instructional design staff. • Develop, maintain and monitor timelines for design, development and evaluation of projects. • Manage the Online and Digital Education Office budget, budget development and program evaluation. • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including content providers, Multimedia Services and IT • Ensure that the appropriate guidelines and standards are applied in the creation of high-quality programs, webinars and classes which meet learner needs. Initiate and participate in funding proposal development, in collaboration with faculty, staff, and external partners Cont’d Required Skills • Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, curriculum and instruction, distance education, educational leadership or related field. Ability to serve as a collaborative consensus builder who can interpret the needs of students, and facilitate the contributions of stakeholders, including content experts. • Progressive leadership roles focused on planning and developing eLearning applications for educational audiences including leading and managing a college, university or continuing education eLearning instructional design office or unit, including budget and staff supervision responsibilities. • Comprehensive knowledge of best practices in the development of eLearning courses and programs at the college, university of industry level; online pedagogy, assessment and learning principles; application of instructional design theories and methodologies • Online teaching experience and a vision of how technology can be used in support of teaching and learning • Proficient with cross-platform software, HTML with CSS, Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, Microsoft Office Suite as well as new and emerging technologies and their use in the teaching/learning process • Strong communications, project management and team building skills along with a collaborative leadership style The Jackson Laboratory is internationally regarded for its education programs, and has reputation for igniting the passion of future scientists, advancing careers, and informing the general public about the unfolding promise of genetics and genomics.
