1. Front matters
1.1. Abstract.
The principal objective of the research is to make an online advertisement to show the disadvantages of
plastic bags to the environment and encourage people to reuse plastic bags. In the project, online
advertisements can be uploaded two social networks, Facebook and Odnoklassniki. The online
advertisements can be uploaded to the special page, which is opened in Facebook by the project leader.
The page can be shared with AIU students and with other people.
In addition to these, the advertisements might be uploaded to the Russian network called
odnoklassniki.ru which includes mainly Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and all Central Asian countries
including Uzbekistan. Specifically, a group can be opened in Odnoklassniki and information can be
shared. In this group, English topics about disadvantages of plastic bags can be translated into Russian
and Uzbek languages.
2. Body
2.1. Introduction
The demand for plastic bags is probably increasing around the world. It may be said that plastic bag
is one of the main concerns of the world. For instance, plastic bags are creating several problems to
the local people of Uzbekistan. A great number of plastic bags outside can be seen in streets. Plastic
bags are making the streets untidy. Moreover, as the plastic bags produce chemicals, agriculture of
Uzbekistan is being affected by plastic bags.
This problem is so urgent, because Jenni Wiltz (2011) says,” Californians alone use 19 billion plastic
bags every year. It costs the state about $25 million per year to make sure the discarded bags end
up in a landfill—that cost rises into the billions when you add up how much it spends to clear trash,
including plastic bags, from its waterways”
According to the report of Wild Tracks (2011), “there are 39,600 deaths of children around the world
who die from asphyxiation from plastic bags”
Moreover, misusing of the plastic bags is one of the problems in AIU. According to the warden of
AIU, Mr Rosle Wong, “plastic bags can be seen on the grounds of the university and students are
throwing plastic bags without being aware of the negative consequences of the plastic bags to the
environment”.
2.2. Purpose
There are several principal objectives of the project:

Make people aware of the disadvantages of plastic bags.

Show how to use plastic bags with instruction.

Call citizens of Uzbekistan and AIU students do not use plastic bags.


2.3. Scope
Reduce a waste of plastic bags.
Save environment and biodiversity.
The project aims:
 Reduce the use of plastic bags in daily lives of the AIU students and the users of
Odnoklassniki,
 show disadvantages of plastic bags with pictures,
 put different themes and topics about the negative effects of the plastic bags to the page of
facebook.com and to the group of odnoklassniki.ru,
 translate English topics about plastic bags into Russian and Uzbek languages,
and
 discuss about negative effects of plastic bags.
2.4. Background




According to the Sharon, “plastic bags are difficult and costly to recycle and most end up on
landfill sites where they take around 300 years to photo degrade. They break down into tiny
toxic particles that contaminate the soil and waterways and enter the food chain when
animals accidentally ingest them”.
The plastic bag pollution is becoming a serious issue. There are millions of plastic bags used
each year and most of them can be used only once. What can be done with those bags after
they are used? Nothing. They just become a mountain of trash that pollutes the Earth.
(Angieck, 2012).
We are trying to attract people’s attention to the problem of plastic packaging. This is a big
problem because plastic takes about a thousand years to decay and its production is one of
the most environmentally harmfuf. (UZNEWS, 2010).
“Plastic bags around the campus of the AIU are one of the problems which we are facing.
Some of the students are not throwing the plastic bags to the dustbins. The university
changes the dustbins every week, but all the wastes are combined together. In the
foreseeable future, we are going to implement the system of gathering different wastes
separately for recycling, for example plastic, paper and so on. We will provide special
dustbins for each floor. So, we can give to the recycling.” (W. Rosle, personal
communication, 19th November 2012).
2.5. Solution/ Proposed plan



Open a group which is concerned with plastic bag pollution in Odnoklasssniki social network.
Translate English topics into English and Russian languages and post it in Odnoklassniki
Social network.
Open a page which is concerned with plastic bag pollution in Facebook.




Call AIU students to like the page, so that all news and notifications can appear in their
screen when they use Facebook.
Post the pictures of the consequences of plastic bags in both sides.
Share ideas about plastic bag pollution among group members.
Make a poster and post in both sides.
2.6. Benefits





The awareness of plastic bags may increase among AIU students and the people of the
Uzbekistan.
It may lead people to think about the negative consequences of the plastic bags.
The streets of the Uzbekistan may be cleaner than present situation.
AIU students may not throw plastic bags as they find out about the disadvantages of the
plastic bags.
AIU students may begin to throw the plastic bags to the special dustbins which promised by
AIU management.
2.7. Management
 Gather more information about plastic bags.
 Communicate with AIU staff.
 Open page on Facebook and group in Odnoklassniki.
 Gather people in my group and page.
 Attract them with interesting topics, facts and pictures.
 Make them become interested in my posts.
 Create interesting poster and post it.
 Find different topics in English and translate them to post.
2.8. Cost
This project is tertiary sector activity. Therefore, it does not require much money. Most of the works
can be done by computer and the internet. Overall, the project needs approximately 20RM.


The cost of proposing a project is for paper and ink is about 10 RM.
Electricity for computer is around 10 RM.
2.8. Conclusions
 No need much money.
 Can be done individually.
 May help to make people aware of disadvantages of plastic bags.
 May lead people to use less plastic bags.
 May lead AIU students to gather their plastics separately and give to the recycling.
 May lead to be more environmentally friendly.
2.10. Recommendations
 Group and page can be opened under the name of the AIU.
 The page and the group can carry the AIU logo to promote the university as a green
university.
 AIU students can exchange their ideas and promote the page.
