Grammar Unit

Mark and Bill
Philosophies:
Mark: Grab the books and seeing where it goes. Punctuation and grammar go together
and both should be taught.
Technical Tuesdays? “Grammar Day.”
Bill: Deciding what each grade level should be learning. Repetition will happen. Build
on what they learned the year before.
Mark and Bill: Composition books will be used for notes. Composition books used and
retained for 4 years. Students go to last year’s teacher to pick up Comp books.
Common assessments will be for semester and end of year. Teachers are responsible for
assessments for each unit.
9th grade agenda:
POS—Nouns, verbs, adj, adv, pronouns, IO,DO, preps and prep phrases, interjections,
conjunctions.
Nouns—Function (Subjects and objects)
Verbs—Transitive (DO, IO), Intransitive

*The book differentiates different types of nouns but we feel if the student can
simply identify the noun in a sentence this is where we want them to be.
