INVITATION TO TAKE PART IN JERSEY OPEN STUDIOS 2012 FRIDAY 22ND JUNE – SUNDAY 1ST JULY 2012 Dear Artist We would like to invite you to take part in Jersey Open Studios 2012, which celebrates the many talented artists and makers producing work in Jersey. The event asks artists to open their studio doors for two weekends between Friday 22nd June until Sunday 1st July 2012 for visitors to learn about their work, visit them in their studio gallery and purchase directly from them. One piece of each participating artist’s work will be exhibited from Friday 22nd June until Thursday 28th June. This allows islanders to identify the studios they wish to visit. Following last year’s successful event, we’re pleased to confirm that the exhibition will be once again held in shipping containers installed at Weighbridge Place. Once the exhibition is over, the containers are used for shipping as before. To encourage visitors to the site, we would like to hold painting/graffiti workshops for the public. We’ve already had incredibly positive feed back about this idea and if this is something you would like to be involved with, please let me know with your application. The artist’s work on the containers last year looked great and generated a huge amount of free publicity - this is something we would like to encourage. We would also like to hold a series of art workshops in the containers at the Weighbridge and launch an ‘Open Studio’ program of studio workshops and demonstrations to take place in the autumn. This is a proven method of meeting and starting a dialogue with potential clients. We will also publicise this at the event and encourage the public/artist relationship to extend beyond July. If you’re interested in either workshops, but have not done this type of thing before, get in touch. I can come to your studio or we can meet at JAT and discuss how it might work best for you. Pocket guides will be produced for the event, and all events will be heavily publicised on our website, social media profiles and through local media coverage and advertising. Artists do not necessarily need to have their own studio to take part; there will be the opportunity to feature as a guest in another artist's studio or find temporary exhibition spaces around the Island. Please contact us if this is the case and we will try to help. Although the Open Studio event is is co-ordinated by the Jersey Arts Trust, we are currently negotiating sponsorship from an emerging Jersey company. We are a non-profit organisation and our aim is to develop and support the arts in Jersey. Although we provide the administration, sponsorship links and promotional material, the main force behind the project is the artists and their work. Without you there is no event. The more you publicise the event, the more people know about it, the more accessible it is to the public, the greater it’s success If you have any questions or if you need to talk about any aspects of Open Studios, please do not hesitate to contact me. E-mail me at sasha@arts.je or call 617521/07797 913331. I do hope you are able to take part and we look forward to working together in the coming months.
