ACTIVITIES
Couples Massage (10 students)
Instructor: Jenny Gelfan
Mondays 6PM to 8PM
FUEL
6 sessions: $70 per person
This course will teach you basic relaxation massage technique and theory. Upon completion, you
will be able perform a basic relaxation massage to share with your friends and family. This
course is hands-on and you do not need any previous experience.
Dog Behavior and Training Theory (8 students)
Instructor: Sanja Miklin
Thursday 5PM to 6PM

6 sessions: $30 per person
This class will cover the basics of dog behavior: their developmental periods, communication as
well as breed-specific characteristic behaviors. Then it will move on to dog training theory,
starting form the classical and operant conditioning framework, and then building up to practical
applications. The class will look at behavior-problem prevention (eg. socializing the dog),
teaching desirable behaviors (eg. sit, stay, come) and also addressing problematic behaviors
(chewing, barking, aggression). There will be a very strong emphasis on so-called “positive
reinforcement” techniques and the course will include a clicker-training workshop.
Origami (10 students)

This course will educate whoever’s interested in origami in the basic folds and techniques. We
will create some staple origami pieces such as the crane, but after the first few classes students
can pick projects they would like to attempt, as well as bring in outside origami schematics. All
projects are welcome, from attempting to make the whole spectrum of animals to one thousand
cranes.
Poker: From Beginner to Pro (20 students)

Learn how to improve your poker game and play at a high level. Open to all players regardless of

Public Speaking 101 (20 students) (CANCELLED)

"According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death." Jerry Seinfeld
Do you get nervous speaking in front of audiences? Do you flail your arms around when you
speak?
In this course, I can help transform you from a jittery, undisciplined mumbler into a confident and
charming orator. Topics I will cover include getting over your fear of public speaking, voice
control, physical movements, eye contact, and confidence building. We will also be doing some
casual speaking drills and exercises to give you in-class practice and feedback. If you are
proactive about your learning and like to have fun while doing it, this class is for you!
Note: Students of all levels of experience are welcome. This class is a judgment free zone.
Speed Reading (20 students)

This course will improve your reading rate and comprehension skills, as well as other study
strategies for more effective and efficient academic learning.
Wushu (Chinese Martial Arts) (12 students)

Wushu, also known as Kung Fu, or Chinese Martial Arts, is a traditional part of Chinese culture
dating back to 3000 BC. It consists of a variety of fighting styles developed over the centuries and
emphasizes physical, metal, and spiritual balance. Through the practice of Wushu, one learns
self-defense and awareness of his/her surroundings, as well as ways to control stress.
ARTS
Chamber Music Performance Workshop for Strings (7 students)

Play an orchestra instrument, but don’t want a huge time commitment? Come and play the
classics all the way to contemporary hits in quartets, trios, and duets, as we develop music
performance skills at the most intimate level.

Ever wondered where that cute ski bunny or epic trickster got their awesome ski hat? Well it is
very likely that they may have made it themselves! Learn to make beanies or earflap ski hats, and

Drawing Portraits 101 (10 students)

Come learn how to draw portraits! We'll cover a range of topics from caricatures to photorealistic
portraits. We'll spend about 15 minutes per class analyzing a particular style before working, and at
the end of the term we will have a class critique and discuss everyone's work. No drawing experience
required.
Knit It! (10 students)

Want to know how to make your own garments? Wanna make a warm and snuggly gift for your
mom? Need a warm hat to get you through the winter? Want a pastime that is simultaneously
hipster and grandmotherly, classic and edgy? Looking for a fun, relaxing hobby to do while
watching movies, listening to lectures, or sitting through meetings? Then you gotta Knit It! Learn
all the skills you need to make a custom fit wool beanie by the end of the course, including
casting on, basic garter stitch, purling, decreasing, color change, and binding off, even how to
make a pom-pom for the top if you like! Materials provided, including a variety of yarn colors.
Tea and cookies and a musical ambiance may be provided.
Sewing for All (6 students)

This class will start from beginners and up. I will help you to learn and make functional, fast,
easy items that will be of interest and use to you now. This can include quilts of all sizes up to
queen, pillows, table runners, curtains, clothes and things for the house. Let your time and
imagination be set free to have fun sewing. It has been my passion since age 5 and continues to
be. The fabric, machines, books and your imagination and color choices make each item and
original.

Bartending- Mixology 101 (8 students)

Be the knowledgeable drinker! Instruction on basic bartending skills, alcohol safety, the history
and process of different types of alcohol, and how to make a variety of mixed beverages. By the
end of this course you will have superior knowledge of different types of alcohol and drink
recipes and have mastered basic bartending skills. *No real alcohol will be used.
Introductory Baking (10 students)

Making Easy and Delicious Soups and Appetizers (6 students)

You will learn to make one soup and appetizer each class. They will be simple to make, yet have
flavors that will impress your friends and family.
Panjiri Theory: Indian Cooking and Global Interdependence in the New Century (8 students)

This hands-on cooking class will cover a variety of Indian dishes over the course of the term, with
a subsidiary focus on issues surrounding the dishes being prepared. The dishes will provide an
overview of staples of the north Indian diet, including largely vegetarian spiced legume and rice
dishes, but will also touch on dairy and fish dishes and also dessert and beverage. During meal
preparation issues surrounding the dish will be presented and discussed. Issues could include
background on the domestication and cultivation of key crops, exploration of the dish as a
culturally evolved technology meeting complex human nutritional needs, and contemporary food
security issues.
The Russian Vodka Tradition (10 students)

This course will examine Russian traditions of toasting, comraderie, fine vodka, and zakuski
(food eaten with drink). We will enjoy varieties of fine Russian vodka and zakuski together,
learn some basic Russian toasts, and place these traditions in their cultural context. *Must be 21
or older to enroll. ID required to register.
Seoul Food: Korean Cooking Made Simple (10 students)
Instructor: Alicia Kim

6 sessions: $80 per person
We will be working through six different Korean recipes – all incredibly popular both in Korea
and abroad. Each class will be a hands-on session where everyone can engage in various parts of
the cooking process and become familiar with classic Korean flavors. The instructor will also
demo throughout the class and provide recipes at the end. All of these dishes – like bulgogi and
bibimbap – have a special place in Korean culture, and this course will be a chance to tap into the
heart of “Seoul food.”
South Asian Cooking (10 students)

Learn how to make easy, delicious Indian meals, including favorite standbys such as chicken
tikka, curry, biryani, and more.
Whiskey Tasting (One Time Only) (7 students each class)

1 session (Choose 1/17, 1/24, 1/31): $30 per person
This one time, 1.5 hour course is perfect for those with an interest in trying something new
without time for a six week course. We will try different varieties of whiskey from all over the
world. Learn how to enjoy, appreciate, and judge the whiskeys of the world. This is a good class
for graduating seniors to take! Learn how to order like a real adult at a bar. *Must be 21 or older
to enroll. ID required to register.
Wine Discovery (23 students)

We will learn to really enjoy wine by becoming familiar with its components from farm to hype,
major viticultural techniques, grape varieties, deciphering labels, and sensory evaluation. *Must
