2016 Governor’s Honors Program The Governor's Honors Program (GHP) is a four-week summer institute held on the campus of Valdosta State University and offers academically and artistically gifted and talented students the opportunity to engage in exciting and challenging learning opportunities outside of the school year. Students may be nominated by his/her teacher September 8-23, 5:00 PM. Categories of Nominations: Academic (Communicative Arts, French, Latin, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Math, Science, & Social Studies) Fine Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, & Visual Arts) Technology/Career Education (Engineering & Design Technology) Agricultural Science Nominee Criteria & Eligibility: Students should have demonstrated high academics, aptitude, and interest in the area of nomination. Students must be enrolled in 10th or 11th grade Students shall be nominated in only one subject area, by the subject area instructor If students are nominated by more than one teacher or for more than one nomination area, the student’s first choice will be the deciding factor Students must be nominated by a teacher. Students cannot be self-nominated or nominated by a parent Selected students must commit to participation in the state level interviews as scheduled by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement if selected as a state semi-finalist. Students must commit to participation in the program for the entire residential period if selected as a state finalist, including opening and closing days. Inability to meet the attendance requirement will result in disqualification for consideration, and, if selected for Governor’s Honors participation, can result in dismissal from the program. The principal, school coordinator, district coordinator, and superintendent must endorse all nominations Nomination Process for 2015-2016: Student, teacher nominator, and school coordinator must submit a complete an online district-wide application AND electronic state-wide application (state-wide application required later for nominees that advance to the state round). Students must also participate in district and state interviews. Teacher nominators must assist with preparing their nominees for local and state (if applicable) interviews for their specific content area. Teachers may nominate students beginning September 8 through September 23, 5:00 PM. The teacher nomination application will close at that time. Teachers have received instructions on how to nominate students. After teachers submit the district online nomination application, students will receive an email link to begin their application. Dr. Blankenship will also receive an email link to complete the school coordinator application. The complete online district-wide student application must be submitted by September 30, 5:00 PM.
