SAMPLE: Conceptual Object Model
The object model is from the design phase of the eResearch Animal Management project. The object model simply
describes the entities/objects in the system and their relationships to one another at a very high level. This may be all
that’s required for small projects.
A more detailed logical model of the data structures—a data model—will almost certainly be required, however, for
enterprise-level systems; for systems that pass data back and forth with other applications; or for when you plan to
query or report on system data. The object model is merely a first step in those cases. It informs the data model that
then informs the physical model of the database.
