OLD NEWTON WITH DAGWORTH & GIPPING PARISH COUNCIL CEMETERY RULES 1 Grave memorials will be limited to HEADSTONES and/or one MASONRY VASE per grave adjacent to the headstone . The Burial Authority reserves the right to straighten or realign any of these if necessary. 2 JARS, VASES and ORNAMENTS made of GLASS may not be placed on the graves. The Burial Authority reserves the right to have removed from graves any unsightly or dangerous objects. 3 No SHRUBS, BUSHES or TREES may be planted on the graves. 4 The wording of INSCRIPTIONS on headstones and masonry vases must receive the written approval of the Burial Authority. The appropriate fee must accompany the application. 5 DOUBLE DEPTH GRAVES a) will only be allowed at the discretion of the Burial Authority. b) May only be used for members of the same family or by persons not related by blood or marriage but who had lived as part of the family. c) A Reservation may only be made at the time of interment for a double grave in depth only and in the same grave space. d) No other form of reservation is currently permitted 6 Urns can be positioned in one of the following three areas a) Beside the new memorial path – with a plaque with a base 18”x18”x 24” and a maximum height of 12”/30cm mounted behind on the paving slabs b) To the left of the old memorial wall following existing rows c) In an existing grave 7 The mound on a new grave must be turfed but will be levelled by the caretaker when the grave has settled at or about eighteen months. 8 MOTORISED VEHICLES may not enter the Burial Ground without the Authority of the Chair to the Parish Council. 9 DOMESTIC ANIMALS may not be allowed loose or to stray into the Burial Ground. Animals must be on a lead at all times and owners are reminded to always clean up after their animal. 10 IRREVERENT BEHAVIOUR is forbidden by law and will not be tolerated. Witnesses of any such act are asked to report the facts to the Clerk. 11 FLORAL TRIBUTES relating to plaques on the wall may be placed at the base of that memorial wall. These may be removed later at the discretion of the Caretaker and/or the Burial Authority. 12 PLAQUES for the MEMORIAL WALL are to be of uniform size -12”x8” and materials as are used at present. The old memorial wall is to be filled before moving onto the new wall. 13 No interments are to take place on Sundays with the exception of ashes. 14 These RULES and CHARGES to be reviewed annually. 15 Visitors are invited to assist the Burial Authority in keeping the Burial Ground tidy. 16 Any suggestions for its improvement would be welcomed and should be sent to the Clerk. 17 Relatives of those commemorated are respectfully reminded that there have been instances of vandalism in Cemeteries and Churchyards. Parish Council insurance will not cover this type of damage. However, Funeral Directors and Stonemasons do operate schemes to take care of such eventualities and we would strongly recommend that they are considered. These rules are to ensure that our Cemetery achieves a high standard and allows families to pay their respects to their loved ones in an environment of peace and tranquillity. Up to date plans and records of the burial ground, together with all other information are obtainable from the Clerk to the Parish Council. Please note that all requests for interments in the Cemetery must be directed to the Clerk. 2. The Old Newton Burial Authority respectfully informs the public that the following rules relating to the Old Newton Burial Ground have been passed by the Burial Authority at a meeting held on 1st September 2010. These fees and payments will apply except where an exclusive right of burial has been granted under rules operative at a time prior to these amendments on this date. 3. The fees and payments set out below apply, where the person to be interred is, or has been a resident for a minimum of 5 years, in the joint parishes of Old Newton with Dagworth and Gipping, or in the case of a child under 5 years, where the parents qualify. This fee is deemed to give exclusive right of burial for a period of 75 years and includes the cost of the Deed of Grant. 4. Any person not qualifying by paragraph 3 above, but wishing to be buried in this cemetery, must apply in person by writing to the Burial Board during their lifetime stating their claim. The Burial Board shall decide by ballot and confirm the decision in writing to the applicant. In instances of successful outcome for the applicant, all fees payable at time of death shall be double those applicable to a parishioner. 5. An additional rules and notice board will be installed at the gate as well as the shelter. Any additional inscriptions including the memorial wall tables. £25.00 10 A tablet on the Memorial Wall (12”x 8” in size) to be sympathetic with existing tablets. Preferably in granite. £30.00
