Separation of Existing Concentration Area into two Concentrations: Epidemiology and Health
Administration
The purpose of this memo is to transmit modification of the structure of the Master’s in Public Health
Program and submit new courses.
This request is being made because the Department of Public Health has the faculty complement to
separate the concentrations into distinct disciplines that align with accreditation by the Council on
Education for Public Health.
1) Separate existing concentration into two separate concentrations: Public Health Analysis and
Management become 1) Epidemiology Concentration and 2) Health Administration
Concentration.
2) Update the “Graduate Degree Programs/Public Health, MPH” webpage with updated
information reflecting concentration changes, and concentration course requirements. All
changes are in one marked catalog copy document.
3) Updated “Curricula” pages to reflect new courses. All changes are in one marked catalog copy
document.
4) All new courses are Health Administration except where indicated as Epidemiology:
a. MPH 6700, Health Economics
b. MPH 6702, Epidemiology Methods (Epi concentration)
c. MPH 6800, Health Policy and Politics
d. MPH 6810, Strategic and Financial Management of Healthcare Organizations
e. MPH 7010, Human Resource Management and Leadership for Health Administration
f. MPH 7200, Principles of Public Health Surveillance (Epi concentration)
g. MPH 7301, Topics in Public Health (Epi concentration)
5) Remove cross-listed course HLTH 6013, Behavioral Sciences and Health Education
6) MPH 6002 was renamed to ‘Ethics and Law in Public Health’ from ‘Advanced Public Health
Practice’ in 2012, and the “Programs” description is updated.
7) Affected units have been notified as indicated in Table.
