RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT Diagnostic imaging is recognised as an important adjunct to clinical examination in the care of patients with many common illnesses, most such imaging will be by radiography (x-rays) or ultrasound. Radiography is the use of x-ray to produce imaging of internal structure of the human body. In lily hospital the modalities is as follows, 1. Two mobile x-ray units (GE amx4): this is a machine used in taking images of different parts of the body. 2. Fujifilm computer radiography capsular XLII: this machine produces digital images of high quality. 3. Picture archiving communication system (PACS). this is a medical imaging technology which provides economical storage of and convenient access to image from multiple modalities (electronic images) and reports are transmitted digitally via PACS . This eliminates the need to manual file system retrieve, or transport film jackets. 4. Mammography machine (stenography 800t). Mammography machine is another modality used in imaging department. This enables the examination of breast tissue for any pathology. 5. Fluoroscopy machine (picker product). This machine is used for special investigation such as HSG, IVU, Barium studies etc. Ultrasound: this is another modality used in imaging department. It uses high- frequency sound waves, over 20,000 cycles per second (20 kHz). These uses invincible waves to humans can be transmitted in beams and are used to scan the tissues of the body. However the department is capable of performing the following special scans - Doppler scan 4D scan Breast scan Chest scan Ocular scan Thyroid scan Musculoskeletal scan Obstetric scan Pelvic scan Abdominal scan Scrotal scan
