FEE-HELP

Higher Education

Support Act 2003

Unfavourable treatment of a person or group of people in an area of public life, on the basis of a characteristic identified in the Racial Discrimination Act 1975, the Sex Discrimination Act 1984, or the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.

Attributes identified in these Acts include, but are not limited to:

Race, sexuality, gender identity, relationship status, pregnancy, religious or political conviction, breastfeeding, age, status as a parent or carer and disability. These are called ‘protected attributes’ or ‘grounds’.

Is ensuring everyone is treated in a fair manner, according to their individual needs. It requires fairness and impartiality but not necessarily treating everyone the same way. There are occasions where equity involves a decision made in good conscience to treat a person differently according to their circumstances.

An income contingent loan available to students enrolled in an eligible bachelor degree program to assist in the payment of their tuition fees.

A Commonwealth Act also referred to as HESA. This Act includes the following provisions:

VET FEE-HELP

FEE-HELP assistance: Subdivision 104 of the Act.

An income contingent loan available to students enrolled in an eligible VET unit of study to assist in the payment of their tuition fees.

VET unit of study Refers to a diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate or graduate diploma course of study (program) or a qualification specified in the VET

Guidelines, that CIT is approved to offer VET FEE-HELP for.

Principles

1.

CIT is committed to providing equal opportunity of entry into and progress through CIT courses and access to facilities and services for all prospective and enrolled CIT students, if they meet the specific pre-entry requirements for the course.

2.

CIT will promote an environment free from discrimination.

3.

CIT will within its means provide resources, assistance and promotion of programs in a way which reasonably accommodates individual and group differences. This does not prevent

CIT from taking into account, in making these decisions, educational disadvantages that a particular student has experienced or the fact that the student may be enrolled via a VET restricted areas arrangement.

4.

CIT will have an equity officer who can support students to ensure respectful and responsible behaviour is maintained at CIT, including assistance in dealing with issues and complaints regarding discrimination or harassment, and providing support for students in nontraditional areas of study. Equity support is available through Student Support 62073290
