2.14 Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC

Suggestions and ideas given by IQAC committee to Academic Council, sports committee and cultural
committee for various students related activities are implemented.

IQAC takes feedback from students, parents and alumni to check and improve the quality in education,
research, teaching, sports and cultural etc.

IQAC checks the development and maintenance of hostel and college infrastructure including
laboratory and class rooms.

IQAC co-ordinates and recommends fee concessions, library books and scholarships for needy and
meritorious students.

IQAC co-ordinates with research development committee of the college to motivate teachers to take up
research projects from UGC and other funding agencies, seminars/conferences and publication of
research work including book writing.

IQAC helps in providing good environment for teaching & learning by taking care of infrastructure &
other facilities.

Co-ordination of IQAC with registrar office, general office and accounts branch in day to day activities.

IQAC members, as member of academic council give their suggestions in the meetings and make sure
that the decisions taken by Academic Council are implemented.

Achievements
Academic calendar for new session was followed as
per University norms.
Construction of new toilets near the stadium and
rooms for mess contractor and service staff in hostel
campus. The new and old buildings of girls hostel
were interconnected.
On the first working day of each month Havan is
organized in the campus to keep up the baton of
spirituality and to inculcate Indian ethos among
students.
New equipments were purchased as per requirement.
Renovation was done in Department of History,
Political Science and Music.
ICT facility was enhanced and more Wi-Fi
connections were provided to new departments.
Kurukshetra University Hisar Zone Championship
organised in the college in Badminton (Men and
Women) and table tennis (Men and Women)
College also organised inter zonal championships of
Badminton (Men and Women) College students
participated in 26 cultural items in Zonal Youth
festival and bought many positions recommendedcommended items.

3.26 Major Activities during the year in the sphere of Extension Activities and Institutional Social
Responsibility
MAJOR ACTIVITIES

A Socio-Economic Survey was conducted by the students of M.Sc Geography at “Khejarli Village of
Jodhpur District (Rajasthan)” during August 4 - 10, 2013.

A delegation of 7 students of the Department of Geography participated in the Seminar on “Indian
Space Programme and its Applications” at Haryana Remote Sensing Space Application Center
(HARSAC), Hisar.

Sachin, Suresh, Ravi Kumar and Alisha Kochar of B.M.C. (I) and Naveen Kumar of B.M.C. (III)
participated in Hindi Poetry and Speech Competition held at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science
&Technology, Hisar on September 12, 2014.

Power Point presentation were given by students of Physics Association on different topics like smart
phones, LED, hacking, physics in daily life etc on September 20, 2013.

Rahul and Anita (B.M.C.II) participated in a two days Symposium on “Media and Society” held at
Guru Jambheshwar University of Science &Technology, Hisar on October 29-30, 2014.

Two of our students, Simran Raheja and Pooja Aggarwal (B.Sc. Medical) were selected for POSE
scholarship sponsored by Haryana State Council of Science and Technology, Govt. of Haryana on
November, 2013.

Botany Model on “Transgenic Plants” made by Mani and Maninder (B.Sc. III Medical) got First
position in Inter-District Science Exhibition, sponsored by Director General Higher Education,
Haryana, held at Dayanand College, Hisar on January 29-30, 2014.

Botany Model on “Transgenic Plants” made by Mani and Maninder (B.Sc. III Medical) got Second
position in State Level Science Exhibition sponsored by Director General Higher Education, Haryana
held at Govt. College, Hisar on February 20-22, 2014.

Physics model “Mission to Mars” made by Sonal and Shiwangi (B.Sc, II) got First position in InterDistrict Science Exhibition sponsored by Director General Higher Education, Haryana, held at
Dayanand College, Hisar on January 29-30, 2014.

The two then participated in the state level exhibition held at Government College Hisar on February
20-22, 2014. Sonal got first prize in the category for ‘best explanatory’ in district as well as state level.

Geography model on “Flood Disaster Management” stood first in Inter-district Science Exhibition
held on January 29-30, 2014.

Computer Model “Automated Home System” made by Kamal and Rahul of BCA (III) got 1st prize in
the Inter District Level Science Exhibition organised by Director General Higher Education, Haryana
held at Dayanand College Hisar on January 29-30, 2014.


Chemistry model “V2 Hope For Future” made by Vikram and Vanita of B.Sc. (II) got first prize in the
Inter District Level Science Exhibition organised by Director General Higher Education, Haryana held
at Dayanand College Hisar on January 29-30, 2014.

The two then participated in the state level exhibition held at Government College Hisar on February
20-22, 2014.

A workshop on “Remote Sensing and GIS” was organized by the Department of Geography in
collaboration with Institute of Photo-grammatery and Geo- informatics (IPGI) on February 10, 2014.

A free medical camp for staff members was organized in college campus on February 26, 2014 by
Cipla Limited, Ambala Cantt.
NSS ACTIVITIES

Independence Day was celebrated in college campus and Dr. Mahender Singh of Department of
History, Dayanand College, Hisar delivered a lecture. The Programme officers and all the teachers
were present there to pay homage to the martyrs.

Communal Harmony day was observed by NSS unit in the college in August, 2013. NSS programme
officers addressed the students on this occasion and threw light on the importance of the day.

International Literacy Day was observed on September 8, 2013 in the Library Reading Hall.
Programme Officers motivated students to organize adult education programme.

NSS day was celebrated by NSS units on September 24, 2013. NSS programme officers highlighted
objectives of NSS on this occasion. Chief guest, Mr. Subhash Bhalara and Dr. V.K. Garg shared their
views on “Role of youth” in NSS programmes. Volunteers also displayed posters on this occasion.

NSS units celebrated Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shashtri Jayanti in October. The
programme officers shared their views on the life histories and principles of both the leaders.
Volunteers also gave their performance in various activities like poem recitation, songs etc.

National unity week was observed from November 19-25, 2013.

National voter’s day was observed on January 25, 2014. Dr. Vivek Srivastava (HOD Botany
Department) spoke about the importance of voting and how to use the “Rights to Vote” on this
occasion.

Republic day was celebrated with great pomp and show. Officiating Principle, Sh. Avneesh Jetly, Dr.
Mahender Singh and NSS programme officers hoisted the National flag on this occasion. Dr.
Mahender Singh made volunteers aware about the constitution and the process of its making. Many
cultural activities were performed by volunteers.

Martyrdom Day was observed on January 30, 2014. All programme officers and volunteers paid
homage to all the Martyrs and remembered their sacrifice for the nation.

NCC ACTIVITIES

Cadet CWO Manish won Silver medal in AERO Modeling and Cpl. Vikash Saharan won silver Medal
in flying held at PVSC-I and II in Chandigarh.

Cadet Vikas Saharan and Sangeeta Gill got selected in AIVSC Banglore.

Cadet Manish won Silver Medal in 100 m and 400 m race. He also got third position in 200 m race.
Cadet Manju won first position in 100m, 200m. And 400 m. She also got first position in throw ball
competition and also participated in group dance held in ATC.

Cadet Anita, Geeta, Varsha, Nisha Sharma and Shakuntla Choudhary participated in District Level
Republic Day Prade.

NCC Army wing team won Gold Medal in Volleyball and 4×100 m Relay Race in the Annual
Training Camp held at Bhattu Kalan (Fatehabad) from January 1-9, 2014.

On October 31, 2014 College NCC Army Wing unit along with NCC Air Wing and NSS units
celebrated the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ in the college campus and officiating Principal Sh. Avneesh
Jetly waved off the rally on the route consulted with the district administration.

NCC Army Wing also celebrated ‘Swachhata Saptah’ with NCC Air Wing and NSS units and put all
efforts in cleaning the college campus. On this occasion various competition such as Essay Writing,
Slogan Writing, Painting, Collage etc were organized to create awareness among the college students.

Our college NCC Army Wing (Girls) won Ist Position in Drill Competition in ATC organized by 3rd
Haryana Btn. NCC, Hisar.

5. Student Support and Progression
5.1 Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Services

IQAC creates awareness and lends support to students through committees constituted in college.

It gives intimation to students through notices and announcements during functions in college.
5.2 Efforts made by the institution for tracking the progression

Through informal interaction with the students and through social networking we come to know about
the progression of our students. It has been found that a number of students go for post graduate
studies, professional courses and M.Phil. Etc. A few students opt for exams like Banking, SSC and
Defence Services. Some of our commerce students clear their CA-CS exams.

1. A lecture on “Cyber Crime” was organized on February 24, 2014 in collaboration with news paper
Amar Ujala News Paper, to awaken our students on the issues related with cyber crime and choose it as
a profession.
2. Carreer guidance and placement cell in collaboration with Ministry of Social Welfare, Government of
India organized a workshop on Skill Development Programme for Weaker Section of society in March
2014.

i.
Students in hostel campus complained about salty water, the grievances of hostlers were overcome by
laying a separate pipe line of fresh water. Fresh water tankers are purchased as and when required.
ii.
Two aqua guards of 50 litres capacity each were installed in college campus to fulfil the demand of safe
drinking water for the students.

The college adopts a transparent system where all the procedures set by higher authorities like
Director General Higher Education, Haryana, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and DAV
College, Managing Committee, New Delhi are duly followed. Various committees like Staff
council, college council, Academic Council and IQAC take important decisions related to the
welfare of students and staff in the college.
6.3 Quality improvement strategies adopted by the institution for each of the following:
6.3.1 Curriculum Development
Our college teachers play an active role as members Board of Studies and Academic Council of
Kurukshetra University in designing and deciding the curriculum.
6.3.2 Teaching and Learning
1. College follows the academic calendar of Kurukshetra University.
2. Teaching through interaction in the class is encouraged using latest teaching aids.
3. Regular classes with exhaustive coverage of the syllabus by the end of the session.
4. Teaching is supported by basic computer skills and soft skills thus making the students self sufficient
and employable.
5. To inculcate social and moral values among the students so as to make them responsible citizens.
6.3.3 Examination and Evaluation:The college maintains transparency in evaluation system by informing the marks of class tests and
assignments to the students. Weak points of the students are discussed with them so that they can
make improvements.

The college encourages faculty members to participate actively in Seminars, Conferences and
research activities.
Practical and project work of students are so organised as to motivate them towards research.

FEEDBACK ANALYSIS
Almost all the students are satisfied with the classroom teaching, student teacher
interaction and evaluation process. However, some of the students complained about shortage of
drinking water and less space in library.
It has been analysed from parents feedback that they are satisfied with the
college atmosphere. However their demand is to increase facilities in the hostel and to start new career
oriented courses.

UNIVERSITY FORUM

September 20, 2013, our students Preksha, Himani, Harpreet (B.Sc. Medical) and Himani (B.Sc.
Nonmedical) participated in Inter College Essay Writing Competition held in Government College, Hisar,
sponsored by Director General Higher Education, Haryana and got First position at District level.

Dr. Vivek Srivastava of Department of Botany delivered a lecture as resource person on ‘Effect of Pollution
on Biodiversity’ in Inter College District level Seminar organized by NCC Air Wing NO-1 and Dayanand
College, Hisar on November 11, 2013.
COLLEGE FORUM

The students of Department of History visited Hisar Fort on August 12, 2013, September 4, 2013 and
March 12, 2014. In the first, second and third visits of this study tour 140, 75, and 125 students visited the
fort respectively.

The students of Department of History visited the Regional Museum of Hisar Division – Jahaj Kothi on
September 18, 2013 with faculty members of the department. The Director of the Museum Mr. S.P. Chalia
explained about the technical aspects & importance of preservation of historical material.

Department of Defence Studies organized an extension lecture on “Indo-Pak relation” on October 14, 2013.
Col. R.S. Dhankhar CO NCC 3rd BN. HAR. was also present. Historical background of Indo-Pak relations,
J&K issues and current scenario of Indo-Pak relations were discussed in detail.

The Department of History organized Inter-class Quiz Contest on October 15, 2013.

Students of Department of History visited ‘Rakhigarhi’ a historical site where excavation was being
conducted by Deccan College Pune (Maharashtra). Prof. Shinde, the Director of Excavation and Vice
Chancellor of Deccan College (Deemed University) explained about the excavation site, methods of
excavation and the material found at Rakhigrahi. On the way back the students visited the Historical fort of
Hansi & Hisar Church.

On April 5, 2014 the Department of History organized one day Seminar on the topic “Harappa Sabhyata Ki
Pehchan, Haryana Ki Shaan- Rakhigarhi” key note speaker was Dr. Nilesh P. Jadhav, the regional incharge
of Rakhigarhi excavation. Dr. Vim Chan Jung National University Seoul, Korea, Sh. S.P. Chalia Director of
Regional Museum Hisar, Sh. Khyaliram from Rakhigarhi village were also the speakers of the Seminar .

On September 21, 2013, Life Science Association observed ozone week. On this occasion Inter Class
Slogan-writing and Painting competition on Global warming, pollution, ozone depletion and other
environmental issues were organized.

On October 9, 2013 six of our students of life science participated in Quiz competition organized by
Government College, Hisar, sponsored by Director General Higher Education, Haryana.

On October 28, 2013Prof. B.D. Sharma from Dept. of Botany, Jodhpur University, Jodhpur was invited to
deliver a lecture on “Paleobotany-Fossil and Fossilization” to the students of B.Sc (Medical and
Biotechnology). Prof. B.D. Sharma donated some fossils to the Department of Botany of the College, Hisar.

On October 28, 2013 Prof. S.K. Goyal, Department of Botany, CCS HAU, Hisar, delivered an extension
lecture on “Pollen Morphology and Pollen culture” to the students of B.Sc. Medical and Biotechnology.

Botany Students of B.Sc. (II and III) went for plant collection and visited and collected local flora of Hisar
on March 5, 2014.

Women cell of college organized A talk on ‘Oral Hygiene and Care’ by Dr. Sangeeta Sangwan a famous
dentist on March 10, 2014. A free Dental Camp was also organized on the same day. Dr. Saurabh Madan
and Dr. Ravi Bishnoi also spared their valuable time for the camp.
NSS EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

Shri Ajit Singh, former Director Doordarshan Hisar delivered a lecture in NSS annual camp on February
15, 2014.

Dr. Renu Rathee of Department of Psychology delivered a lecture on “How to Enhance Self Confidence by
psychological technique” in NSS annual camp on February 15, 2014.

Dr. Manju Khurana, Gyaneocologist delivered a lecture on ‘First Aid on Heart Attack’ to NSS volunteers in
NSS camp on February 2014.

Dr. Mahender Singh, Dayanand College Hisar, delivered motivational talk to NSS volunteers in NSS camp
on February 17, 2014.

Dr. Mahender Singh organized a debate competition among NSS volunteers during annual camp on the
topic “The Education System now a day” February 18, 2014.

Kurukshetra on October 17-18, 2013. He also represented K.U. in cycling for Inter University

SOCIAL INITIATIVES BY STUDENTS

On August 22, 2013 NSS volunteers performed duties to create awareness of traffic rules among
citizens.

A Blood donation camp was organized in college campus, on October 1, 2013. 320 units of blood
were donated by the students and Staff.

NSS volunteers celebrated Road Safety Week from October 24-31, 2013. People were made aware
regarding traffic rules.
