Charity Oriented Myanmar is registered (Registration No. 2058) as a Local Non Government Organization working for civil society, humanitarian aid and community development programs in accordance with Myanmar policies, laws, rules and regulations. COM is also a full member of NVD since 2012. COM is established by local youths since 2005 and it is working for gender equality, non-religious and non-politics based organization. There are currently 29 staffs in COM with their specific program. COM started international voluntary service since 2012 and finished 15workcamps with over 100 volunteers from Myanmar and international. COM has capacity building and development programs working together with Norwegian People Aid (INGO in Myanmar), European Union, Trocaire (Ireland based NGO in Myanmar), Diakonia (Sweden based NGO in Myanmar), US Embassy and workcamps program runs independently from other program but all programs work together under COM umbrella.COM current projects are as follow: - International Voluntary service in Myanmar Program - Young leadership and political awareness Program - Women leadership and political awareness Program - Mobile Training for Political Parties program - Charity computer training centre program - Mobile library Program There are three COM sub-offices in Myanmar and located in Shan State, Mon State and Thanintharyi Region. No International Volunteer workcamp has been organized yet. Lone Kaung Charity Monastery was built since 2012 for the local development in children education and it is also charity monastic education school. There are over 400 students studying in the monastery and almost all of them are coming from different villages and stay in dormitory in the monastery. 3 International Voluntary service program in Charity Oriented Myanmar Work; The volunteer will participate in the monastery school event and helping to the local community especially in constructing building for students. They will also work in cleaning and cooking for the students together with local volunteers from monastery. Teaching English and sharing social knowledge also including in the work. Taunggyi is the capital town in Southern Shan state. The landscape is surrounded with mountain and sea level is above 4500 feet. The area is peaceful and clam area. Payataung youth development centre monastery is also a young charity development centre and founded since 1982. There are over 800 students with diverse races Paoh, Lesu, Kayan, Kayah, InnThar, Danu, Shan and stays the whole year as dormitory in the monastery to attend government high school from the village. Work; The volunteer will participate in the monastery school and helping to the local community. They will also work in cleaning and cooking for the students together with local volunteers from monastery. Teaching English, sharing social knowledge, working in the firm and construction are also including in the work. Based on the weather, volunteers can also work in the firm or construction. Playing with the kids from kindergarten is also included. Other Activities; In the workcamp meetings, leader will propose many activities for culture exchange, work and sharing and your creative ideas are welcomed and everything can be discussed. Location; It is located in Naung Shwe township in Shan State but near to Kayah State. That area is Pa Oh self administration region and sea level is above 2000 feet. The landscape is surrounded with mountain and water from lake. The area is peaceful and clam area and the main agriculture area. COM/05-15 Thein Lar Kat Su Workcamp 6/9/2015 – 19/9/2015 Social Sharing/Agri The Project; The township Myaung Mya was affected from Cyclone Nargis in 2008 and local people in that area try to settle up their livelihood and still suffer after post cyclone. One COM alumni from Women leadership Training Alumni Network has community development activities in their native. That is first international volunteer workcamp in 2015. There are Bumar and Kayin Ethnic group in the village. 80% of villagers are Buddish religion and 20% of villagers are Christan. Work; The volunteer will participate in the agriculture sector and helping to the local farmers. They will also work in the pineapple farm and local crop activities in the farm together with local volunteers involved in the activities. And volunteers have to by themselves. Sharing social knowledge and working in the firm are also including in the work. Playing with the kids from kindergarten is also included. Other Activities; In the workcamp meetings, leader will propose many activities for culture exchange, work and sharing and your creative ideas are welcomed and everything can be discussed. That area is many trees and agriculture surrounded in the village. The area is peaceful and clam area. Accommodation; Volunteers will be accommodated in a local leader house in the village. The local leader provides pillows, blankets, mosquito nets and maps for volunteers. Transportation; Volunteers will leave from Yangon at 6:30 pm and arrive to LaPuttTha town between at 1:30 am to 2:30 in the morning. And local leader will pick up to volunteers by Motor Bick to go to TheinLarKaSu village. Special Requirement; Playing with the kids activities, Please bring some toys for the kids. That area is Pa Oh self administration region and sea level is 4500 feet. The landscape is on the top of mountain and surrounded with mountain. It is also near to the city of Southern Shan State, Taunggyi. It is only 12 miles away from Taunggyi city and it takes 45 minutes by bus. The area is peaceful and clam area. Accommodation; Volunteers will be accommodated by Buddhist monastery. The monastery provides pillows, blankets, mosquito nets and maps for volunteers. They also provided locally cooked fresh food to volunteers. Transportation; Volunteers will leave at 6:00 pm from Yangon and its take about 11:30 hours by air-corn bus to get Hopone town and 20 minutes by bus to get Naung Taung Monastery. Medium Term Volunteering program Project name: English without Boundary Project areas: Payartaung Monastery Nyaung Shwe Township Naung Taung Monastic Education School Hopone Township Lone Kong Monastic Education School Taunggyi Township Duration: 2 to 3 months Target groups: 40-80 students from age 12 to 18 Main Activity: Teaching English comprehensive skills to the student and help in community work Preferable period: March to July, October to January (Summer Holidays start from March to May for three months and Schooling year starts on 1st June) Participation Fees: 200US$ per month (only for token of love to the monastery, meals, administration and program running cost from office) 9
