Stained Glass Project Names: ____________________________________ Period: ________ Stained-Glass Project Overview: You are in charge of designing a stained-glass display to be displayed in a windowframe facing the outside world. Your design can only contain regular polygons and cannot have any gaps or overlaps. You will draw your design on a sheet of paper and color it. You are assuming that this design will eventually be turned into a real stained-glass window, which means you must tell the architect how much glass of each color they need to order. Design Guidelines Your design must include at least 3 different types of polygons o This means you cannot have a design that is all hexagons or all squares Your design must include at least 20 polygon pieces (although you may use more) Your design must be colored with at least 3 different colors Your design cannot have pieces that overlap or create gaps o Remember that our rule is that all the angles at a vertex must sum to 360 You are allowed to create some sort of picture or design as long as there are no gaps in the design. Check with Mr. Usher if you have an idea in mind Your design must be created with attention to neatness and accuracy. Calculations Guidelines You must complete the attached worksheet to show your calculations. These include: o The individual interior angle of each type of polygon you used o The central angle of each type of polygon you used o The area of each type of polygon you used o The total area of your entire design o The area broken up by color (for example: the area of all the red shapes) o How much it will cost to order the different colors of glass You must show your work on a separate sheet of paper, especially for the area calculations Project Deadlines & Scoring This project is due on Tuesday, April 15 This project is worth 80 points PROJECT DUE Tuesday, APRIL 15th Stained Glass Project Names: ____________________________________ Period: ________ Stained Glass Worksheet Use this worksheet to keep track of your calculations. You will turn in this worksheet along with your design Fill in this table with the different types of regular polygons you used. You must use at least 3 different types. It is possible that you won’t use all the lines in the table. Show your work on a separate sheet of paper The glass-smith making the glass for your design will make each side 16 ft long. Polygon Individual Interior Angle Central Angle Area of individual polygon Combined Area of these polygons Fill in this table with the different colors you used to color your design. You must use at least 3 different colors in your design. It is possible that you won’t use all of the lines in the table. Show your work on a separate sheet of paper. The cost of glass is $5 for every 8 ft2 of glass.
