Post Title:
Partnership Ranger, White Cliffs Countryside Partnership
Responsible to: Partnership Officer
Grade: I
Partnership Ranger (Dover) – working on sites in Dover district (in particular land owned by
Dover DC and Dover Town Council)
Partnership Ranger (Eurotunnel) – working on sites owned by Eurotunnel (Samphire Hoe
and Folkestone Downs) working every other weekend
Partnership Ranger (Shepway) – working on land in Shepway district (in particular land
owned by Shepway DC)
II.
JOB PURPOSE
To help implement the aims and objectives of the White Cliffs Countryside
Partnership. In particular, to carry out practical environmental and community based
projects to maintain and enhance sites for the benefit of wildlife, the landscape and
people.
These posts are intended to assist the Partnership Officers implement practical work
on the ground and it is expected that 80% of time will be working on practical projects
on site, often with volunteers.
It is a requirement of this post to work flexible hours, including evenings and
weekends, for which time off in lieu can be taken. All staff can be required to assist
with the weekend staffing of Samphire Hoe or any other visitor sites as necessary.
The Partnership Rangers can be directed to work a minimum of two weekend days a
month, if necessary for the operational needs of the Partnership.

III.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist the Partnership Officers to implement the agreed activities within the WCCP
Business Plan and Work Plans.
2. Carry out day to day wardening and management of land maintaining accurate
records of work carried out. Assist in the implementation of grazing in collaboration
with local farmers. Make recommendations for future action as appropriate. Develop
and maintain good working relationship with neighbouring landowners and other
countryside organisations.
3. Carry out site surveys and monitoring to demonstrate improvement of the site
through wildlife surveys and visitor surveys. Prepare simple reports as necessary.
4. Maintain safe and welcoming access for the public including maintaining risk
assessments and carrying out regular written safety checks. Assist the Partnership
Officers in ensuring Health & Safety policy is implemented at all times.
5. Plan and carry out events such as guided walks, children’s activities (Green Gang)
and practical tasks that contribute to the delivery of the Partnership’s aims and
objectives.
6. Maintain site-based interpretation and assist the Partnership Officers in the
production of high quality information (including new media) that promotes the
Partnership as well as increasing people’s understanding, enjoyment and respect for
the countryside.
7. Involve and train the local community in management of land as conservation
volunteers, voluntary wardens and guided walk leaders. Assist in the day-today
supervision and training of any Apprentices or Interns under the overall control of the
Partnership Officers.
8. Assist the Partnership Officers in the production of publicity to promote the
Partnership and its work (including giving illustrated talks to community groups).
9. Lead school visits and assist the Partnership Officers in working with schools and in
the development of educational materials. Assist with school work experience.
10. Any other reasonable duties that may be required from time to time.
