AIMS OF THE FUND The Access to Learning Fund is a fund provided by the UK Government to support students who fall into financial difficulty whilst studying at university. The Access to Learning Fund can award discretionary grant payments to students in need. Whilst it cannot support every application it receives, the following groups of students are priority: Lone Parents Care Leavers Disabled Students Final Year Students You can still apply to the fund if you do not fall within one of the priority groups but are experiencing financial difficulty. CLOSING DATES Final Year and Postgraduates: Friday 27th March 2015 Continuing Year: Friday 15th May 2015 Your application must be received by the relevant closing dates specified. If your application is received after the closing date, it will not be considered. ELIGIBILITY CHECK If you can answer yes to all the following questions, you are eligible to apply to the Access to Learning Fund. Further details regarding eligibility can be found in the Guidance Notes. Are you a ‘Home’ student, or classed as a home student for fee purposes? Are you enrolled and attending at least 50% of a full-time course this academic year? Or are you a disabled students attending 25% of a full-time course this academic year? Is your annual income under £16,845*? *This amount increases if you have a partner or children. Please note, your partner’s income is also included in the assessment. In some instances, it may be necessary for additional supporting information to be sought from other university staff in order to reach a decision regarding your application. COMPLETING THE ACCESS TO LEARNING FUND APPLICATION FORM - Complete all four sections of the application form in BLOCK CAPITALS. - SECTION A (Personal and Bank Details) – Complete this section fully, as this information will be included in the assessment. - SECTION B (Income and Expenditure) – Complete this section fully, providing weekly figures (where applicable). You must provide EVIDENCE of ALL income and costs you list in Section B. - SECTION C (Course Related Expenditure) – Complete with section with information about the costs you experience as a result of studying. - SECTION D (Declaration) –The application will not be considered unless the following items are completed in ink: tick the relevant box, print your name, sign and date the application form. The fund is required to use a set figure to cover the basic costs of your study that includes items such as course materials and books.
