It is aimed at enabling more women to develop the leadership side of their careers. The University therefore invites applications from women in any job family at grades 8 & 9 initially; if capacity remains, we will open it to other grades. There is no need for candidates to be in leadership roles already; the programme is for women who would like the opportunity to explore their own interest in and aptitude for the leadership element of their profession, including those who may not previously have thought of their career in this way. Please tell us briefly about how you display leadership in your current role: (no more than 150 words) We would expect the applicant to have identified how they practice both formal and informal leadership, and thought about what that means in terms of their personal performance and contribution. Quantity of leadership experience is irrelevant; leadership can be displayed in many small ways across a range of activities. What questions about your own leadership would you like to answer by participation in the programme? (No more than 150 words) Applicants should show that they have thought about their strengths, weaknesses, aptitudes and preferences, and how they are discernible in their current leadership and management activity. Expressing doubt is no detriment, but we would expect more than: “I was curious so I thought I’d give it a try.” What do you expect to be doing professionally in 10 years’ time, and how do you think participation in this programme will help? You will be required to attend five one-day workshops as part of the programme, but you don’t have to attend them all in the same place.
