Y RK – THE CITY
OF THE VIKINGS
Go with Grade 5’s Travel Agency to York in the North of England!
York is a beautiful city that used to be full of fighting Vikings from
Scandinavia, but is now a calm, famous historical landmark. As you
can imagine, York was once such an important city it actually gave
name to the city of New York.
Do as Robin Hood, King Richard and finally the Vikings and give
this city a go. Join Grade 5’s Travel Agency’s round trip and
explore York with us!
The tour starts outside the York Minster, a medieval, enormous
cathedral built
between1230-1400. It
is the highest and most
beautiful building in
the city centre, so you
cannot miss it.
This is nothing for the
one afraid of heights:
You will climb the
central tower and see
the city of York, 56
metres up from the
streets!

Our next stop is at Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley! The real “Diagon
Alley” is called Shambles and is a medieval street in the middle of
York. Diagon Alley is an exact copy (replica) of this street. Get
inspired by Harry Potter and do some magic, or just buy some
delicious fudge or souvenirs.
Lunch break: Steak and Yorkshire pudding with gravy.

After you have enjoyed a traditional Yorkshire dish, it is time to get
to know the old York - the medieval Jorvik and its Vikings – at
Jorvik Viking centre. Here you will see what York was like when the
Scandinavian Vikings ruled the city.
Finally, we will end the tour at Clifford's Tower. It is a strange tower
just outside the city walls where a man named Roger De Clifford was
hanged in 1322. Wonder what he did…
From here you can walk the city walls or visit the world’s biggest
railway museum. If you feel like walking in the city centre, enjoy the
small shops and the street entertainment that can be found
practically everywhere. Welcome to York and grade 5’s tour!
