Honors Course Interest Form
Eighth grade honors courses offered for the 2015-16 school year are listed below. If your child is interested in an honors
course, please indicate which course(s) you would like your child to be considered for. We will then begin the screening
process for the course(s) indicated. Indicating interest does not guarantee placement in an honors course. Students must
meet the criteria to be placed in an honors course. Students should return this form to their HOMEROOM teacher by
Monday, Feb. 23rd to be considered for an honors course.
Eligibility for each honors course is determined by separate and specific criteria. Generally, students qualify for an honors
course with MAP test scores above the 85th percentile, teacher recommendation based on classroom performance, and a
test or written application. See the chart below for more details about the requirements.

course for 8th grade. Students in these courses, who are not performing at the level expected, may be placed in an 8th grade
honors course by going through the application process outlined above. Current teachers of these honors courses will
notify the parents of the students to whom this applies.
All seventh graders who wish to enroll in Honors Algebra 8, including those students currently in Honors Math 7, will need
to meet the requirements for placement into Honors Algebra 8. These students will be evaluated using the criteria listed
above.
If a student is currently in an honors course and does not wish to be placed in the corresponding honors course for 8 th
grade, a written notice of this decision signed by a parent/guardian must be turned in to a dean before March 6, 2015.
You will be notified in May if your child has qualified for an honors course. If you have questions about this process,
please contact your child’s dean or KTMS Gifted Specialist, Leslie Eggan. Students should return this form to their
Homeroom teacher by Monday, Feb. 23, 2015.
