District Checklist in preparing for SB 149 requirements [Individual Graduation Committees] Before committee meetings Review student data for 12th grade students to determine who would qualify (including students who completed curriculum and 12th grade year last year and are EOC students) o o Get information to parents and students about who will qualify (see parent notification template) Set timelines for: o o o Establish district criteria for the committee’s review of “considerations” Establish district procedures for project/portfolio requirement o Parent notification Committee meeting deadlines for June graduation Committee meeting deadlines for August graduation (if applicable) Establish procedures for principal appointment of “principal’s designee” o Review of credits for diploma Review of EOC testing history Have teachers/curriculum persons work to build a menu of projects for the committee to choose from with rubrics Create district criteria for portfolio review by committee Establish procedures for whom may be a designated advocate if parent cannot attend and student is under the age of 18 Establish procedures for communicating IGC decision to counselor for verification Establish documentation procedures for 2014-15 school year Preparing for committee meetings Create schedule of committee meetings Prepare for teachers needed (teacher and the lead/department chair for each failed EOC) o o Substitutes (and sub preparations by teacher), if needed Provide all participants, including subs with schedule Print student testing history for all administrations of the EOC exams relative to the IGC Establish location Inform necessary parties regarding procedures for visiting parents and guests Assign a committee member to the role of documenting and collecting needed information After committee meetings Follow up on district’s documentation procedure Compile list of 11th grade students (and 12th graders) for next year to determine who may qualify Keep record of the 2014-2105 procedures to prepare to adjust where needed based upon the Commissioner’s decisions for 2015-16 school year 5-15/GE
