Unit Title: Stone Age Tools and Early Human
Advancements
Generative Topic/Big Ideas:
What type of tools did early humans use? What were three most important advancement of the Stone Age Era?
Integrated Learning Objective(s)
ELA Content: Students will develop a coherent understanding of the topic by integrating information presented in
different media or formats as well as in words.
Art Content: Students will be able to perform a monologue where they will use effective vocal expression, gesture,
and facial expression oral and physical interpretations to show their ability to
Authentic Summative Assessment
Students will create a power point presentation or storyboard/ collage where they will describe the type of tools
early humans used. Students will create a replica of a tool by using different types of materials (wood, stones, rope,
clay, mud, etc…). Students will write a reflection that shows what they have learned about early humans, their
tools, and achievements.

1) Ancient Civilizations Textbook
Project Description
Option 1: Stone Age Tools. Students recreate an artifact, create a power point and give an oral presentation on
their artifact. Power point must explain the artifact, how/ why it was used, and by whom.
Option 2: Stone Age Achievements. Students create a collage/ storyboard to depict the three most important
advancements of that era. Students complete a written essay summarizing these achievements. Essay must be at
least 5 complete paragraphs.

humans. In their interactive social studies notebook they will include their own original art as part of their notes
