Minutes for College of Humanities Administrative Council Monday, December 5, 2011 ~ Pending Approval @ February 6, 2012 Meeting ~ Members Present: Scott Andrews, Tim Black, Douglas Carranza, Brian Castronovo, Sheena Malhotra, Evelyn McClave, Juana Mora, Jody Myers, Michael Neubauer, David Rodriguez, Elizabeth Say, Jackie Stallcup, Sandra Stanley, Rick Talbott, Shelly Thompson, Elizabeth Whirledge. 1. Call to Order: 2:05 2. MSP - 11-07-2011 minutes. 3. 2:15 time certain for Hillary Baker, Harry Hellenbrand & David Levin: IT Vision 2015 IT Roadshow Hillary Baker, Provost Hellenbrand & David Levin led a discussion about the campus digital master plan. IT Vision @ 2015 is the launch of a campus wide collaborative conversation about how the campus can use technology to fulfill technology priorities. a.) David Levin & Deonne Zell: Faculty Technology Center – Discussed and distributed information regarding a call for proposals for a Summer 2012 Redesign Institute for instructors who wish to redesign their courses for hybrid or online delivery and also the implementation of E-texts. 4. Review Draft: COH Policies for the Assignment and Evaluation of On-Line Teaching A review of the draft “Polices for The Assignment and Evaluation of Online Teaching” developed by Sheena Malhotra, Juana Mora, and Jody Myers. The Special Assistant to the Dean, Juana Mora, noted the recommendations and proposed circulating a revised document via email for the Administrative Council to review further. 5. Faculty Sick Leave The policy for reporting faculty out sick was reviewed with the Chairs and Program Coordinators. Guidelines from the Provost and Faculty Affairs that detail the university policy regarding this were distributed. 6. Finals & Grades Faculty grades are due at 5pm on Friday, December 23, 2011. Grade reports cannot be run until all grades are posted. The university can’t post degrees or grades until all grades are submitted. 7. Nominations for Associate Dean Search Committee A call for nominations for the Associate Dean Search Committee was announced. According to Section 622.5 of the Administrative Manual, “applicants for the position of Associate Dean of a College….shall be screened by a six-member committee composed of three members elected by the faculty of the College…from among tenured senior rank [Associate or Full] Professors…” Nominations were received according to the College of Humanities by-laws and the following persons were nominated: Ahmed Bouguarche, Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures Edith Chen, Asian American Studies Fred Field, English Kate Haake, English Tim Black, Philosophy Christina Ayala-Alcantar, Chicana/o Studies 8. Announcements Elizabeth Adams, Director of Undergraduate Studies, would like to know how many copies of the University Catalogue each area needs. Please email Juana Mora as soon as possible. The search process for the president has been extended for 90 days to allow for additional candidates to be included in the pool for consideration. The Chancellor will appoint an interim president for the Spring semester. 9. Adjournment – 3:45pm
