Context
Youth Stop AIDS
Youth Stop AIDS is made up young people across the
UK who believe that the world’s response to the HIV
pandemic is insufficient and unacceptable.
As part of the STOPAIDS campaign, Youth Stop AIDS
works to bring about the changes in national and
international policy which will turn the tide on
the spread of HIV and minimise its devastating
impact on people and communities around the world.
Key to the work of Youth Stop AIDS is the
understanding and belief that young people have the
potential and capacity to fight for global issues,
becoming highly skilled and effective activists.

Our vision
Our underlying vision is to ensure there is
universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care
and support across the world.
We want to see the reversal and ultimate ending of
the HIV/AIDS pandemic through the promotion of
universal access to evidence-based prevention and
affordable treatment and through long term and
sustainable care and support.
We want governments, global institutions and
corporations to put the life-saving needs of people
before profit and commercial interests.
We want to see a world free from stigma and
discrimination through increased global awareness
and education.
How we make change happen
We work to bring about change through raising
awareness, political lobbying, public engagement
and corporate action. We target those who have the
power to make a difference, engage people and
communities who can leverage change, and work for
the adoption of innovative solutions. We confront
governments, institutions and corporations to bring
an end to the injustice surrounding HIV/AIDS by
ensuring that they live up to the promise of
delivering universal access.
Decision-makers in government, institutions and
pharmaceutical companies have the resources and the
responsibility to make the changes we want to see
happen. In our work, we make sure that our campaign
demands are clearly heard by decision-makers, and
we pressure them to translate these demands into
real action.

The Speaker
Tour
The Youth Stop AIDS Speaker Tour
Each year Youth Stop AIDS brings the voices of
young people affected by HIV or AIDS from across
the world to the UK. This year we would like to
extend the speaker invitation to people living with
Tuberculosis and Hepatitis C Virus as well and
particularly those affected by HIV and Hep C or HIV
and TB.
Our current campaign is focused around the problems
with our current profit-driven medical innovation
system for researching and developing new
medicines. The current model means 2 things 1) that
poorer people’s health needs and largely ignored
and 2) the medicines produced are priced too high.
This is the reason why we don’t have adequate HIV
paediatric drugs, or better medicines for
Tuberculosis and why new drugs to treat Hepatitis C
cost $1000 a pill in some countries. We need a new
system and this is what our new campaign is all
about.
There is nothing more powerful than hearing the
true-life stories of people affected by these
diseases and the failings of this system to
motivate people to take action and change this
reality.
The Speaker Tour will visit around 15-20
Universities across the UK within a three week
period, with a proposed visit to DFID (Department
for International Development) and to the Houses of
Parliament to engage with key UK decision makers.
The Speaker Tour aims to engage and inspire young
people in the UK to take action to help tackle the
pandemic. As well as telling your story at
afternoon and evening speaker events, we will be
taking part in regional campaign activities
alongside our student campaigners on campuses and
in cities across the UK.
