Note-taker support Mobility support Practical assistant Personal care Re-explanation of instructions Emotional support and re-assurance Organisational support Transcription Breaking down of tasks Understanding of tasks Assistance with study skills Curriculum Services Support (Tier 1) £43p/h (may also be known as Learning Support Mentor or Communication Support Worker) - A member of staff employed to support students as CSS (Tier 1) may assist in the same ways as Tier 2-4 (listed above) as well as the following: 4. Reader Scribe Prompt Practical assistant Oral language modification Transcription (e.g. to aid with hard to read words) BSL/SSL qualified sign language support (Communication Support Worker) - act as a conduit for communication Creation of glossaries for subject specific signs Speech and Language support Additional knowledge in specialist areas e.g. mental health, autism, visual impairments etc. Specialist Adviser £57p/h (may also be known as Disability Officer) - A Specialist Adviser may be employed to support students in the following ways: Development and implementation of specific support strategies with high levels of awareness of specialist area of support e.g. mental health, autism etc. Referral and liaising with internal and external agencies Advocacy on behalf of student Advising other staff on how to best to work with the student High level of specialist support Monitoring and reviewing of support and appropriateness of support for student 1 Curriculum Services Update – DSA Related 5. Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) Support £64p/h (may be known as Specialist Study Skills) - A suitably qualified tutor with a high professionally qualified level of experience in SpLD may support students in the following ways: Development and implementation of support strategies with high levels of expertise specific to Specific Learning Difficulties Imparting learning skills include the incorporation of assistive technology where relevant Development of research strategies Development of composition strategies Development of proofreading strategies Development of note-taking strategies Development of time management and organisational strategies 2
