Trent Group of Coeliac UK. 2012 Newsletter Welcome to all members of the Trent Group. The committee hope that you will find something of interest in the annual newsletter, whether you are newly diagnosed or more familiar with the requirements of a gluten free diet. We try to arrange a variety of events around the area and would be pleased to see you and your family or friends at these events. If there is something you would like to organise please contact either of the addresses on this letter and we will try to do it next year. This mailing is being sent to over 700 members and any help with costs would be appreciated. We are using more e-mail addresses this year, so if you change your e-mail, please let us know (qhdiet@mail.com). Looking back at 2011 Last year we started with an entertaining cookery demonstration in Uttoxeter by Juvela. This was well attended and everyone enjoyed tasting the dishes and sampling the biscuits, in particular the chocolate fingers provided as refreshments by the company. Our May AGM in Burton was unfortunately only attended by 12 members and the committee. The Annual Conference and Food Fair held at the University of Derby gave our group the opportunity to have a stand and meet many members of the public from around the area. My thanks go to Amanda McGreal, Margaret Lewis and Irene Mann who worked tirelessly during the day. Additionally in May, Chapman’s nurseries held an open afternoon and raised an impressive £250.00 which was donated to the group and is helping to pay for this mailing. Our thanks go to Sandra for organising this, I know a lot of work went into the afternoon. The Abbots Bromley coffee morning in July got off to a slow start but was well received by the members who attended, they were able to take a bag full of samples home from DS and Juvela. Both of these companies are always very generous with samples. The final event was the Mickleover coffee morning and cookery demonstration by Nutrition Point which was well attended and very interesting. There was plenty of food to taste and many useful hints and tips were given out. It was disappointing to have to cancel the Hereford coach trip in October resulting in a loss of £50 to the group. The initial interest made this a viable option and the deposit was paid for the coach but then the numbers waned and it was not feasible to run the trip. At the end of the newsletter there is a reply slip, please complete and return to enable us to plan the events thoroughly. Many manufacturers require a minimum of 30 people with the Coeliac condition at an event and we would like to ensure that this criteria is met. If you would like to contact us then it can be included in your reply. What’s on in 2012? Saturday May 12th 10 –midday Cookery demonstration and AGM New Venue. Tutbury Village Hall.
