Trent Group of Coeliac UK. Newsletter 2014 Welcome to all members of the Trent Group. The year seems to fly by and after the success of 2013 we are busy planning events for you for the forthcoming year. The committee hope that you will find something of interest and an opportunity for you to meet members of the group in your local area. We do hope that you are able to support the events, as good numbers make it easier to get gluten free suppliers to attend. This mailing is being sent to over 900 members, the group expands every year. We are using email where possible to cut down on costs, if you change your address, please inform us to ensure that you receive information which is relevant to you. Also if you have received this newsletter by post and have an e-mail address, please let our secretary know on coeliac.trent@gmail.com. We appreciate any comments you have and welcome suggestions for activities or gluten free friendly places to eat. A quick recap on 2013. On a very snowy Saturday in March, we held our afternoon tea at The Community Centre in Mickleover. The hamper style boxes provided by Glutafin were well received as were the food samples. Thank you to all who braved the arctic conditions, particularly the committee members who travelled many miles through snowy lanes to help. Our AGM was held at The Cedar Tree in Rugeley in conjunction with The Juvela Roadshow. The cookery demonstration and dietiitian’s talk were interesting and informative. The hall was packed and it was good to meet members from other groups. The afternoon tea at Anslow enabled members from the Burton area to try a new venue. Food samples were provided by General Dietary and Mrs Crimbles for those attending and a chance to have a cup of tea and a chat. The final event was a cookery demonstration by Drossa. Many dishes were made and everyone enjoyed sampling the pasta products as well as the breads. The opportunity to purchase different products was also very welcome. As mentioned at the AGM I attended the Volunteers Conference in York in September. It is always useful to hear from the officers at Head Office and to learn about the plans for the future for Coeliac UK. The new website is the most recent change and although there have been a few teething problems, they are being sorted out and it should be more user friendly. I appreciate that not everyone has access to a computer and they prefer information sent out by post or in the Crossed Grain magazine. Overall the committee were very pleased with the response to our events and it is always appreciated when members attend and show their support.
